PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stan Young (ranked 25209 p4p, 6206 weight class) and Ryuji Mato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Stan Young has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stan Young!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryuji Mato!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Ben Hemmingworth and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Young looks to throw the jab but Mato is out of range.
Nice defenses there by Mato.
Mato is looking for the big counter here.
Mato goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Young throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Young bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Mato! He dives into his guard looking to finish!

It looks like Mato might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Young controls Mato momentarily but Mato frees himself.

Mato controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Young throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Mato counters by moving into the clinch.
Mato has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Young avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Stan Young has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryuji Mato.

Young has hold of one of Mato's legs. Mato is fighting the takedown attempt but Young gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Mato manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mato is on top in guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Stan Young will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mato closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Young's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A head kick from Mato lands but Young takes it in his stride.

Mato darts in and clinches Young up against the cage.

Young wants the takedown. Mato is fighting it off but Young persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mato's guard against the cage.

Mato has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Young has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Young jumps guard and drags Mato to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Mato is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Young is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mato is aware though and is defending well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mato shoots in but Young avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mato has taken the fight to the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ryuji Mato showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Mato tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mato in particular looking to stall.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mato works his way into full mount!

Young is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Mato.
