PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bob Babcock (ranked 3661 p4p, 1467 weight class) and Howard Webb (ranked 420 p4p, 207 weight class). Webb comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Where the Streets Have No Name - U2 kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Howard Webb has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Howard Webb!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Webb connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Babcock avoids the body shot from Webb.
Webb digs a good body shot into Babcock's ribs.

Babcock dives in and scores a takedown into Webb's guard.
Webb looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Babcock postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Webb preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We've been hearing that Babcock has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Webb wants to stand and escape but Babcock is having none of it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Babcock accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Babcock won't allow Webb to sweep him here.
Babcock is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Babcock might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Webb wants to get back to his feet but Babcock is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Babcock wants to control from the top but Webb keeps moving.
Webb avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Babcock slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Webb uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Babcock has time to react.
Howard Webb seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Webb lands with a hook. Babcock tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Babcock changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Babcock misses with a knee to the head.
Babcock keeps control of Webb as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Babcock goes for a takedown attempt but Webb pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Babcock. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Babcock takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Webb lands with a good body shot.
Babcock is breathing heavily.
Babcock shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Webb sprawls well. Webb wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Babcock gets slowly back to his feet.
It seemed like Webb was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Webb cracks Babcock with a good jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Webb fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Babcock is rocked!
Webb cracks Babcock on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Babcock falls backwards against the cage. Webb follows up with more strikes that drop Babcock to his knees. Webb keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Babcock! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Howard Webb!
