PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gakus Amiga (ranked 24663 p4p, 24430 weight class) and Richard John Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 32 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gakus Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 32 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard John Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Salvacion gets caught napping as Amiga dives in and scores a takedown. Salvacion manages to retain guard.
Salvacion is pulling down on Amiga's head. It's preventing any offense from Amiga, at least for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion being controlled here, momentarily.
Amiga trying to control but Salvacion is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Amiga tries to free his leg and advance position but Salvacion is retaining full guard.
Salvacion is controlling Amiga's posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Amiga.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Salvacion closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Amiga's guard.
Salvacion controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Amiga trying to keep a closed guard but Salvacion is proving a slippery customer.
Salvacion's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga looking for a sweep. Not yet Amiga, not yet.
Amiga is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Salvacion is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Amiga wants to sweep here but Salvacion controlling him for the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Amiga closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Salvacion to the mat! Salvacion manages to get full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Amiga in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Salvacion is trying to control the position but Amiga postures up.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Amiga slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gakus Amiga dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Salvacion with a lazy takedown attempt

and Amiga decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Salvacion's guard.
Amiga slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Salvacion is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gakus Amiga overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Salvacion wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Let's hope that Salvacion has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Amiga slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Salvacion pulls Amiga in close to his closed guard and prevents Amiga from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Amiga drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion sneaks back into half guard.
Salvacion has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Amiga is working away from the top position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Amiga haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Salvacion is concentrating on defense, preventing Amiga from advancing position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nice strikes from Amiga there.
Salvacion trying to control but Amiga postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Amiga as he jumps to the side.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Amiga is defended easily by Salvacion.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gakus Amiga dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Amiga fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
Amiga leaves Salvacion with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Amiga shoots in and bounces Salvacion off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion managing to control the position.

Amiga stays in close to Salvacion's body and controls the position.
Salvacion looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Amiga trying to control but Salvacion is working from the bottom.
Amiga's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Salvacion is on top in guard.

Salvacion sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Salvacion is continuing to stall.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Amiga tries for a takedown but Salvacion sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Amiga misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Salvacion follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Richard John Salvacion has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gakus Amiga is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gakus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Amiga thinks about countering with a body kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gakus Amiga.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Amiga, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
