PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shahriyar Chai (ranked 1371 p4p, 1493 weight class) and Rustam Kadurov (ranked 173 p4p, 202 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Shahriyar Chai has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Shahriyar Chai seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Shahriyar Chai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rustam Kadurov!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chai lands a nice shot to the body.
Chai connects with a jab.
Kadurov moves out of range as Chai strikes.

Kadurov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kadurov misses with a head shot. Chai uses the momentum to regain guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kadurov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kadurov postures up and lands a big shot to Chai's brow.
Chai tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Chai has his hands on Kadurov's head, controlling the position.
Chai is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Chai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kadurov shoots in and bounces Chai off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Chai pulls Kadurov in close to prevent any damage.

Let's hope that Kadurov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Kadurov lands a couple of decent looking shots.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kadurov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Kadurov tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Kadurov takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Chai fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kadurov feints and as Chai raises his hands in defense, Kadurov changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Chai is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rustam Kadurov will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Kadurov fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Chai sprawls well initially but Kadurov persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kadurov is nestled in close to Chai, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Kadurov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
No joy there for Chai, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kadurov changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Chai throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kadurov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chai tries to avoid it but Kadurov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chai to the ground. Chai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kadurov shoots in looking for a takedown. Chai tries to sprawl out of it but Kadurov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chai manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Chai wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Kadurov manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Chai on his heels. He'll look to pass Chai's guard now, I'm sure.
Kadurov slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Kadurov misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Kadurov goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Chai rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kadurov's guard! Nice work there by Chai!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Chai stands up over Kadurov, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Rustam Kadurov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Shahriyar Chai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rustam Kadurov.

Kadurov with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Chai to score with a decent uppercut.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kadurov goes for a double leg but Chai avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Chai continues to drive forward.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shahriyar Chai showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kadurov has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
