Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mateo Embry (ranked 4789 p4p, 25516 weight class) and Vtnom Snake (ranked 337 p4p, 388 weight class). Snake has chosen wae as his entrance music. The key to victory for Mateo Embry has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mateo Embry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vtnom Snake!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Snake is defended easily by Embry.
Embry lands a jab.

Snake closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Embry to the mat! Embry manages to get full guard.
Snake is standing up over Embry. Embry looks to escape but Snake dives into side control.


Snake stands up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Embry stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Embry wants it to stay on the feet.
Snake tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Embry was well out of range. Poor timing from Snake.
Snake shoots in for a double leg but Embry sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
An attempted straight right counter from Embry misses the target.
Mateo Embry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vtnom Snake.
Embry stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Snake fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Embry leaves Snake with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Snake shoots in looking for a takedown. Embry tries to sprawl out of it but Snake keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Embry manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice uppercut there from Embry.
Mateo Embry is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Embry lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Embry.
Snake looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Embry definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Embry really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Embry lands a really nice looking cross but Snake seems unphased.

and Embry counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Snake has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

This has been an exciting period of action!
A jab from Embry finds it's way through Snake's defenses.
Snake is still on wobbly legs! Can Embry finish him?
Embry misses with the combination.

Snake fails with a takedown attempt.
Snake seems to have recovered his senses.
Embry lands with a straight right. Snake didn't see that one coming.
Snake gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Embry stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Embry uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Snake.
Embry looks to land a combination. Snake sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Oooooh!!! Embry has knocked Snake down with a huge combo! Embry steps away and waves a wobbly Snake back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Snake takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Embry connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Embry avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Embry stuffs the takedown.
Embry keeps the fight on the outside.

Snake has his takedown stuffed
and Embry counters with a nice uppercut.
Embry scores with a nice head shot.
Embry digs a good hook to Snake's body.
Embry with a jab.
Nice cross by Embry.
Good exchange - Embry coming out on top.
Embry dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Embry is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Embry bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Snake's head backwards.

Snake has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Snake shoots in for a takedown but Embry shows good takedown defense.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fight stays on the outside here - Snake looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Snake is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Snake misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Snake drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Snake shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Embry pinned against the cage. Embry gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Snake takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Snake throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Embry tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Snake is in Embry's guard.

Snake is looking for a kimura but Embry is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Snake to get the leverage.

Embry on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Embry tries to get out of the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Snake wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Embry, who protects the arm well.
Embry tries to escape but Snake is in control.

Embry managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Snake.

Embry takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Embry on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Snake is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Embry is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Snake is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Embry has escaped the position, nice work there.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Snake scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Embry to see if he's OK.
Embry is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Embry is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Snake can do to turn this around?

Snake tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Snake fails with a takedown attempt.

Vtnom Snake showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Embry connects with a body shot that sends Snake's belly button to the back.
Vtnom Snake is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Embry darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Embry lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Embry stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Embry wants it to stay on the feet.
Embry appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Embry lands with an overhand left.
Embry ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Embry scores with a hook to the body. Snake takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Snake shoots for a takedown but Embry saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Snake changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Embry tries to avoid it but Snake manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Embry to the ground. Embry escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Embry cracks Snake with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
No joy there for Embry, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Embry throws a right and a left that Snake avoids nicely.
Mateo Embry is winning the standup battle so far.
Nice uppercut there from Embry.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Snake ducks right into an uppercut from Embry.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Snake on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Snake shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Snake was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Snake stands up.
Snake darts in looking for a takedown but Embry gets double underhooks and turns Snake into the cage.
Embry slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Embry throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Snake stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Snake manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Embry on his heels. He'll look to pass Embry's guard now, I'm sure.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Snake drops back looking for a leg! Embry is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Embry manages to kick Snake off! Snake jumps back into Embry's guard.

Snake is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Embry is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Embry has escaped and now he's on top!


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Snake is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Snake has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Embry tries to stand but Snake is controlling from the bottom.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Snake is on top in guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Snake wants to pass the guard but Embry is keeping the position.
Snake throwing strikes but missing.
Snake with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Embry can't keep his opponent in guard - Snake advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Snake takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Snake moves nicely into side control.
Embry is pushing Snake's head away, looking to escape. Snake manages to hold on to the position though.

Snake is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Embry knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Embry wants to get back to his feet but Snake drags him back down.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mateo Embry showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Embry has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Mateo Embry thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
