Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mason Shields (ranked 4320 p4p, 25347 weight class) and Andrew Callaghan (ranked 0 p4p, 630 weight class). Andrew Callaghan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mason Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrew Callaghan!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Callaghan has his takedown stuffed
and Shields cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
The fight stays on the outside here - Callaghan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Shields throws a nice inside leg kick.
Callaghan shoots in and drives through. Shields sprawls well.
Shields tests Callaghan's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Shields shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Callaghan as he avoids it easily.

Shields moves into the clinch.

Shields breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Shields.
Callaghan moves in looking to clinch but Shields pushes him off.
Shields defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Callaghan.
Mason Shields has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Callaghan.
Callaghan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Shields displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Callaghan.

Callaghan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shields.
Shields uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Callaghan.
Shields feinted with a counter takedown.
Shields chopping away at his opponent's legs.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Shields.
Shields fakes the leg kick and cracks Callaghan in the body.

Callaghan instigates a clinch.
Shields is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Callaghan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Callaghan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Callaghan misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Callaghan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Shields gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Callaghan is looking for a takedown.
Callaghan jumps guard but Shields stands there with Callaghan around his waist. Callaghan gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Shields pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Shields is looking to slow Callaghan down with leg kicks.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Callaghan.

Nice sprawl there from Shields as Callaghan shoots in.

Shields closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Callaghan's guard.
Shields postures up in Callaghan's guard and throws a big left but Callaghan blocks it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Callaghan can do anything to dispel that myth.

Shields is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shields trying to control but Callaghan is working from the bottom.
Callaghan is trying to keep Shields in close.
Callaghan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Callaghan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shields can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Callaghan has Shields pulled in close to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Shields is looking to slow Callaghan down with leg kicks.
Callaghan shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Callaghan is looking to clinch but Shields is avoiding it.
Shields went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Callaghan is defended easily by Shields.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Shields dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Callaghan. That did some damage!
Callaghan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shields paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Callaghan is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Shields is defending well.

Mason Shields is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shields with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Callaghan to score with a decent uppercut.

Shields stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shields wants it to stay on the feet.

Shields dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Callaghan. That did some damage!

Callaghan has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Shields.

Shields works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Callaghan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Shields defends well and Callaghan ends up having to push Shields into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Callaghan gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shields to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Callaghan wants to get back to his feet but Shields is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Callaghan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Shields is aware though and is defending well.

Shields drops back looking for a leg! Callaghan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Callaghan manages to kick Shields off! Shields jumps back into Callaghan's guard.

Shields seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Callaghan has his foot on Shields's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shields works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Callaghan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Shields with a nice calf kick.

Shields throws a nice inside leg kick.
Shields connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Shields is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Callaghan can do to turn this around?
Shields works over Callaghan's head and body with a nice combination.
Shields buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Callaghan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shields to the mat! Shields manages to get full guard.
Shields is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Callaghan wants to pass the guard but Shields is keeping the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Shields wants to free his trapped foot but Callaghan is holding on for dear life with his legs.

It looked like Shields was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Callaghan.

Callaghan throws a right hand that Shields ducks under and follows up with a left that Shields also avoids with ease.

Shields sizes up Callaghan with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Shields lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Callaghan's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Callaghan closes the distance and clinches.

Shields breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mason Shields is winning the standup battle so far.

Shields blocks the body kick.
Shields keeps the fight on the outside.
Shields throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Callaghan throws a low kick but Shields avoids it.
Callaghan tries to clinch up but Shields circles away and keeps his distance.
Shields scores with a hook to the body. Callaghan takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Callaghan dives in for a single leg takedown but Shields sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Mason Shields is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Shields keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mason Shields seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shields throws a quick inside leg kick.
Callaghan gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Callaghan chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Shields can pounce on him.
Andrew Callaghan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shields, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
