PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Romulus Gerber (ranked 2412 p4p, 24773 weight class) and Lexus Chaos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chaos has chosen The Chaos Insurgency as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Romulus Gerber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lexus Chaos!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Chaos counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Chaos connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Nice defenses there by Gerber.
Good standup being displayed there by Gerber as he connects with a hook.
Chaos uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gerber.
Gerber throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Chaos.
Chaos swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Gerber is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

I really don't envy Chaos right now.
Gerber slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Gerber is landing with strikes. Chaos can't take much more of this.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Chaos lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Gerber throws the kick towards the body but Chaos avoids it.

Chaos's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Chaos tries to bum rush Gerber with a series of wild strikes but Gerber uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gerber manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Chaos on his heels. He'll look to pass Chaos's guard now, I'm sure.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gerber accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gerber is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well Gerber has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
