Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Godfrey (ranked 4332 p4p, 3533 weight class) and Brandon Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Godfrey kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Where the Streets Have No Name - U2. Ben Godfrey has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson works over Godfrey's head and body with a nice combination.
Thompson misses with an attempted mid kick.
Godfrey is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Thompson.
Thompson throws a right hand that Godfrey ducks under and follows up with a left that Godfrey also avoids with ease.
Godfrey seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Thompson lands with a straight right. Godfrey didn't see that one coming.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Godfrey is trying to trip Thompson. He has hold of a leg but Thompson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Godfrey persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Thompson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Godfrey's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Thompson can't keep his opponent in guard - Godfrey advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Thompson tries to roll over but Godfrey keeps him under control.
Thompson scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Godfrey manages to mount him!
Godfrey is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Thompson can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

It looks like Brandon Thompson has been cut.
Thompson is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Godfrey will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Godfrey cracks Thompson with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Godfrey postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Thompson out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Godfrey goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!
