PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ilgonis Bahs (ranked 4424 p4p, 5508 weight class) and Hyu Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Head comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Eye of the tiger kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Ilgonis Bahs has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ilgonis Bahs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hyu Head!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Head looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Head stalling.

Head is trying to work for a kimura but Bahs is defending well.
Bahs really is a fat lump.
Head working Bahs over with strikes.
Bahs tries to get to full guard but Head has control of the leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Head is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Head scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Bahs knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Head on the ground.

Head sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bahs defending well though.
Head performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Bahs is trying to maintain the position but Head is very close to passing his half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bahs wants to get back to full guard.

Head seems to be looking for submissions.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Head in particular looking to stall.
Bahs has hold of Head's hands but Head slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bahs has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Head is working away from the top position though.
Bahs might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Head is trying to work for a kimura but Bahs is defending well.

Head is looking for a kimura but Bahs is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Head to get the leverage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Head wants to control but Bahs is keeping him busy.

Head is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Head is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bahs is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bahs has escaped and now he's on top!

Bahs has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Head is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Head is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Head is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hyu Head dominated that round.
That's time! Bahs's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Head shoots in but Bahs avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Head dives in and scores a takedown into Bahs's guard.
Head stands up over Bahs, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Head stays in close to Bahs's body and controls the position.
Head stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bahs swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bahs wants to stand but Head is controlling the position.

Bahs is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Head defends well.

Head pushes down on Bahs's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Head lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Head is working for a kimura but Bahs is defending it quite comfortably.

Head is looking to take a break and control but Bahs is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Head has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Head lands with a punch from half guard.
Head is looking to advance position but Bahs won't allow it.
Bahs is not content to let Head control the position.

Head prevents Bahs from standing back up.
Bahs keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Head is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Head shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bahs is trying to defend but Head finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bahs wants to control but Head is keeping busy.

Head wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bahs keeps working.

Head is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bahs has managed to free his arm - good work.
Head slips a nice elbow through Bahs's hands, connecting with Bahs's forehead.
Head slows the pace down in half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hyu Head showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Bahs closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Head's guard.

Head wriggles free and stands up.

Bahs wants to get back to striking at distance but Head won't allow it.

Bahs tries to free his leg and advance position but Head is retaining full guard.

Head pulls Bahs in close to prevent any damage.
Let's hope that Head has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bahs accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Head pulls Bahs in to control the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bahs slaps away a takedown attempt from Head, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Bahs went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Bahs tries to close the distance and clinch up but Head swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bahs looks for a takedown but Head sprawls well.
Head stuffs the takedown attempt from Bahs. Bahs gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bahs slaps away a takedown attempt from Head, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ilgonis Bahs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hyu Head.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bahs enables Head to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bahs manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Head trying to control the position from guard on top but Bahs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Head drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Bahs dives on top into guard.

Hyu Head has got the better of the ground game so far.

Head is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Head is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Head is controlling the pace.

Bahs wants to improve his position but Head is controlling well.
Head lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Head is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bahs defends it well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Head controlling the action here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hyu Head comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Head winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
