PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Carter Simon (ranked 6415 p4p, 25526 weight class) and Paulo Valla (ranked 397 p4p, 426 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Carter Simon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paulo Valla!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valla feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Simon manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Simon fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Valla to the ground. Simon is now in Valla's guard.
Simon engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Valla trying to keep a closed guard but Simon is proving a slippery customer.
Valla is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Valla working for a triangle but Simon defends it easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Valla being controlled here, momentarily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Simon wants to pass the guard but Valla is keeping the position.

Valla looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Simon passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Simon lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Simon content to control rather than advance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Valla is trying to maintain the position but Simon is very close to passing his half guard.
Simon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Valla on the ground.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Simon in particular looking to stall.
Valla is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Valla trying to control here.
Valla looks winded!
Simon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Simon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Simon lands strikes from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Simon content to control rather than advance.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Simon lands a nice short elbow.
Simon looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Valla won't allow Simon to pass to mount.
Simon sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Simon works his way into full mount!
Simon content just to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Simon is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Valla can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Simon is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Carter Simon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Simon rushes Valla and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Valla is looking for a takedown.

Valla pulls Simon into guard.

Valla looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simon is stalling in the full guard.
Valla controls Simon momentarily but Simon frees himself.

Valla working for a triangle but Simon defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Simon makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Simon slips nicely into half guard.
Valla is breathing heavily.

Simon is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Simon lands strikes from half guard.
Simon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Valla can do to turn this around?
Simon content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Simon works his way into side control.
Simon landing strikes.

Valla is rocked!
Valla struggling a bit here.
Valla is still in real trouble! Can Simon finish him?

Simon in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Valla is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
