PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mark The Hammer (ranked 6226 p4p, 22077 weight class) and Noritaka Migo (ranked 491 p4p, 500 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark The Hammer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Noritaka Migo!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The Hammer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The Hammer is looking to take a break and control but Migo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The Hammer is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Migo defends it well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Migo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with The Hammer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Migo can do anything to dispel that myth.
The Hammer sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Migo is squirming around, avoiding The Hammer's attempts to control the action.

Migo is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

The Hammer jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Migo manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The Hammer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The Hammer tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The Hammer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Migo has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mark The Hammer dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The Hammer is looking to clinch.
Migo misses with a hook.
Noritaka Migo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The Hammer shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The Hammer wants to pass the guard but Migo is defending well.
The Hammer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Migo can do to turn this around?
The Hammer wants to control but Migo is keeping him busy.

The Hammer is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Migo is just riding it out for now. The Hammer eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The Hammer content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The Hammer is keen to just control but Migo is a slippery customer.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The Hammer slows the pace down in half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Migo takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Migo swings and misses with a hook to the body.
The Hammer closes the distance and clinches up with Migo, looking for a takedown. The Hammer pushes Migo against the cage but Migo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Migo looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Noritaka Migo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The Hammer uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Migo.
Horrible takedown attempt by The Hammer or perhaps it was just good defense by Migo, which made it look bad.

Migo throws a series of punches but The Hammer moves out of range.
The Hammer attempts a counter takedown but Migo avoids it well and moves away.
Migo misses with a double jab

and The Hammer counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The Hammer advances position into side control!
The Hammer wants to control for a moment but Migo uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
The Hammer is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Migo!

The Hammer quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for The Hammer but it's paid off an Migo is forced to tap! Nice work by The Hammer.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mark The Hammer!
Noritaka Migo spoke after the fight, saying 'maybe I lost but at least, I fought for the show for you !'.
