And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paul Carpentieri!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Peter Branson and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carpentieri fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cooter, pushing him back against the cage.

Carpentieri jumps guard.
Carpentieri looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Cooter tries to free his leg and advance position but Carpentieri is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cooter trying to control the position from guard on top but Carpentieri is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cooter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Carpentieri is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cooter wants to control from the top but Carpentieri keeps moving.
Carpentieri keeping full guard, as Cooter tries to pass.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Cooter trying to control the position from guard on top but Carpentieri is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Cooter rushes Carpentieri and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cooter gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Carpentieri.

Carpentieri is fighting off a takedown attempt but Cooter is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Carpentieri to the mat. Carpentieri regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Cooter drops back looking for a leg! Carpentieri is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Carpentieri manages to kick Cooter off! Cooter jumps back into Carpentieri's guard.

Carpentieri looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cooter's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Carpentieri keeping moving, preventing Cooter from controlling successfully.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Carpentieri is looking to sweep but instead, Cooter has passed into half guard.
Carpentieri keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Carpentieri wants to control but Cooter is keeping busy.
Cooter content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Carpentieri tries to get to full guard but Cooter has control of the leg.
Carpentieri wants to control but Cooter is keeping busy and won't allow it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cooter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carpentieri keeps working.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Carpentieri fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cooter sprawls well initially but Carpentieri persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Cooter is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carpentieri pulls his head out easily.

Carpentieri is looking for a kimura but Cooter is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carpentieri to get the leverage.
Cooter is trying to control but can't.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Carpentieri lands a nice short elbow.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Carpentieri is just content to waste time from the top position. Cooter takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Carpentieri is posturing up here but Cooter has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Carpentieri tries to roll out but it's too tight and Carpentieri has to tap! Slick submission there by Cooter!
