PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Barty Karate (ranked 6133 p4p, 4457 weight class) and Kane Underbridge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Barty Karate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kane Underbridge!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Richard Clark and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Underbridge darts in looking for a takedown but Karate gets double underhooks and turns Underbridge into the cage.

Karate fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Underbridge, pushing him back against the cage.

Karate pulls guard successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karate trying to control the position here.

Karate uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Underbridge shoots in for a takedown but Karate shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Underbridge stuffs the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Karate clinches with his opponent.

Karate jumps into guard, dragging Underbridge to the mat.
Karate has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Karate manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Underbridge manages to get himself to full guard.

Karate decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Underbridge tries to clinch but Karate is having none of it.
Underbridge misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Barty Karate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kane Underbridge.

Karate pulls guard effortlessly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Karate has Underbridge pulled in close to control his posture.
Underbridge really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Karate. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Karate keeping moving, preventing Underbridge from controlling successfully.

Karate is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Karate has clasped his hands together around Underbridge's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Underbridge tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Karate will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Karate trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Underbridge doesn't escape.
Karate seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Underbridge for as long as he can get away with.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Karate continues to stall.
Karate scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Underbridge is looking for a way out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Karate is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Karate has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Underbridge has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Karate is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Underbridge has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Underbridge goes for a double leg but Karate avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Karate continues to drive forward.

Karate takes the fight into the clinch.

Underbridge's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Underbridge closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Karate quickly recovers to half guard.

Karate makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Karate is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Underbridge can do to turn this around?

and Karate moves into the clinch.

Karate manages to break the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Underbridge shoots in looking for a takedown but Karate manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Underbridge's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Karate shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Underbridge as he jumps to the side.
Underbridge slaps away a takedown attempt from Karate, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Underbridge throws a counter combo.

Karate takes the fight into the clinch.
Underbridge can't get the takedown.
Barty Karate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kane Underbridge.

Karate decides to pull guard.
Underbridge tries to free his leg and advance position but Karate is retaining full guard.
Karate wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Underbridge throwing strikes but missing.
Karate really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Underbridge trying to control the position from guard on top but Karate is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Karate has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Underbridge is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Karate struggles to land a body shot inside as Underbridge controls his hands.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Karate tries a knee to the head but Underbridge blocks it.
Karate stalling.
Underbridge jumps guard but Karate stands there with Underbridge around his waist. Underbridge gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Karate is pressed up against the cage. Underbridge has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Karate down to the mat. Karate avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karate throws a low kick, looking for Underbridge's leg but Underbridge calmly moves out of range.
Karate shoots in looking for a takedown but Underbridge manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Karate's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Underbridge will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Barty Karate is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Karate throws a head kick that misses.
Karate avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Underbridge gets tackled into the cage by Karate. Karate maintains the clinch.
Underbridge tries to pull guard but Karate won't allow it.
A frustrated look appears on Underbridge's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Karate manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Karate had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Underbridge defends it easily.
Karate has control of Underbridge's left arm, preventing Underbridge from doing any damage.
Underbridge must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Karate manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Underbridge manages to get himself to full guard.

Karate's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Karate shoots in but no luck this time.
Underbridge closes the distance but Karate moves to the side

and Karate counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Underbridge working for submissions but it's allowed Karate to get to half guard.

Karate is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Karate thows a huge punch but Underbridge dodges it nicely.
Karate drops an elbow to the side of Underbridge's head.

Karate scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Underbridge is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Karate has latched onto it... Big trouble! Karate pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Underbridge is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Karate!
