PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Balal Lama (ranked 1231 p4p, 3048 weight class) and Fedor Mazepin (ranked 146 p4p, 318 weight class). Mazepin has chosen boom as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Balal Lama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 33 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fedor Mazepin!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lama lands with a nice combination. Mazepin backs away looking to recover.

It looks like Fedor Mazepin has been cut.
Mazepin staying out of range there.
Lama fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mazepin manages to avoid it.
Mazepin feints the counter takedown.
Lama misses with a hook to the body
and Mazepin counters with a two punch combo.

Mazepin gets caught napping as Lama dives in and scores a takedown. Mazepin manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mazepin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Lama looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mazepin puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Lama is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Mazepin scores with a couple of nice shots.

Lama pulls Mazepin in close to his closed guard and prevents Mazepin from doing any damage or advancing position.
Lama tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lama not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lama is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mazepin tries to lock up and control but Lama gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Lama lands a nice shot to the head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Lama tried to score with a low kick but Mazepin checks it.
Lama throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Balal Lama is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Lama decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mazepin wants to get back to full guard.
Mazepin keeps trying to improve his position.
Lama is keen to just control but Mazepin is a slippery customer.
Mazepin is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Lama scores with a couple of nice shots.
Lama has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Balal Lama overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lama wants to control the pace but Mazepin is squirming around nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Lama cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Lama is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mazepin can do to turn this around?

Fedor Mazepin's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Fedor Mazepin's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Balal Lama!
Balal Lama managed to slip a mention for his sponsors, Altitude Clothing, into his post fight interview.
Fedor Mazepin spoke after the fight, saying 'until next time'.
