PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Easton Momally (ranked 4342 p4p, 4022 weight class) and Salomon Rondon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Momally comes into the arena with Cochise-Audioslave blaring out of the sound system. Rondon has chosen Fiera Salvaje as his entrance music. The key to victory for Easton Momally has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Easton Momally !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Salomon Rondon!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Momally shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rondon pinned against the cage. Rondon gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rondon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Momally .
Rondon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rondon shoots in but Momally avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Momally went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Momally rushes Rondon and presses him up against the cage.

Momally is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Rondon is defending well for now.
Rondon has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Momally is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Easton Momally has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Salomon Rondon.

Rondon keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Momally 's efforts to push away.
Momally is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rondon to keep the fight standing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Momally tries to break the clinch but Rondon is controlling the position.
Rondon goes for a takedown attempt but Momally pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Momally lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Rondon is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Momally closes the distance and clinches.
Momally is trying to break the clinch but Rondon is controlling him.
Rondon drops down looking for an ankle pick but Momally pulls his leg out and moves away.

Momally throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

so Rondon counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Rondon looking to pass the guard.
Rondon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Momally has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Rondon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Momally 's guard.

Rondon is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Rondon is looking for a kimura here.
Rondon is looking to advance position but Momally won't allow it.

Rondon is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Momally still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Momally has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Momally wants to stand but Rondon has his arm trapped.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Momally shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rondon but Rondon pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rondon is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Rondon goes for a double leg but Momally avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Momally continues to drive forward.

Momally throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rondon's waist but Rondon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Momally off to one side.

Momally shoots in looking for a takedown. Rondon tries to sprawl out of it but Momally keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rondon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Momally gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rondon to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Rondon drops back looking for a leg! Momally is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Momally manages to kick Rondon off! Rondon jumps back into Momally 's guard.
Rondon wants to pass the guard but Momally is keeping the position.

Rondon advances position into side control!
Rondon tries to advance to mount but Momally instead regains half guard.
Momally knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rondon on the ground.
Rondon working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Momally 's thigh. Momally counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Rondon has gone for a leg lock! Momally slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rondon's guard.

Momally won't allow Rondon to sweep him here.

Momally has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rondon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Momally pulls Rondon in close to prevent any damage.

Salomon Rondon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Momally shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rondon as he jumps to the side.
Rondon is looking for the big counter here.
Momally misses with a body kick.
Rondon appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Horrible takedown attempt by Momally or perhaps it was just good defense by Rondon, which made it look bad.

Rondon is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Momally 's half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rondon wants to pass to mount but Momally is defending the position.

Rondon passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Momally !
Rondon moves to the back position.

Rondon has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Momally has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Rondon is persistently looking for the submission but Momally is defending it well.

Rondon is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Momally defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Momally is having to fend off submission attempts from Rondon, who is looking to sink in the choke. Rondon doesn't have the hooks in though and Momally manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Rondon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Momally gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rondon is looking for a triangle but Momally pushes his legs off easily.

Momally stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rondon swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Momally decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rondon, up you get!

I think Rondon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Salomon Rondon was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
In defeat, Easton Momally stepped up to the mic, saying 'It's the nature of the beast in this sport. We can't win em' all. No hard feelings. I'll regroup, reassess, and get back to the grind. CAN"T HOLD ME DOWN! YOU'LL SEE ME AGAIN SOON!'.
