PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gus Steele (ranked 4273 p4p, 5333 weight class) and Jordan Hart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gus Steele!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jordan Hart!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steele clinches.
Hart looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Hart is looking to take this one to the mat.
Hart throws a punch but it's blocked by Steele.
Steele tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hart is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Hart tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Steele smiles and moves away.
Steele shoots for a double leg takedown but Hart sprawls well. He's pushed Steele's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Steele shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hart is trying to defend but Steele finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Steele closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Steele tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hart smiles and moves away.

Hart prevents the takedown attempt.
Steele tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hart just stands there and leans against the cage.
Steele pushes off an throws an elbow but Hart leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Hart jumps guard but Steele stands there with Hart around his waist. Hart gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

With the fighters up against the cage, Steele throws an elbow but misses.
Steele is looking for a takedown.
Hart gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Steele.

Steele fails to pull guard.
Steele is trying to break free.

Hart takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Steele shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hart sprawls well. Hart wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Steele gets slowly back to his feet.
Hart has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Steele is defended easily by Hart.
Hart goes for a double leg but Steele avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Steele continues to drive forward.

Steele shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hart but Hart pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Steele tries to close the distance and clinch but Hart swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Hart counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hart.

Steele pulls guard effortlessly.
Hart postures up.
Hart pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Steele is keeping the position for now.
Steele is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hart can do to turn this around?
Hart stopping the sweep attempt from Steele.

Steele working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hart doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hart manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Steele has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hart can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Steele wants to stand and escape but Hart is having none of it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Hart tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Steele just stands there and leans against the cage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Steele will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Hart up against the cage.

Steele breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Steele looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Steele shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hart as he jumps to the side.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gus Steele will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Steele closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Steele, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
