PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clay Carver (ranked 4305 p4p, 4268 weight class) and Gus Steele (ranked 165 p4p, 158 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Clay Carver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gus Steele!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Lou da Vinci and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carver shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Steele as he jumps to the side.
Carver is looking to clinch but Steele is avoiding it.

Steele closes the distance and pushes Carver back into the cage.
Carver jumps guard but Steele stands there with Carver around his waist. Carver gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Steele jumps into guard, dragging Carver to the mat.
Steele throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Carver controlling from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steele has control of Carver's left arm, preventing Carver from doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steele working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Carver.

Steele working for a triangle but Carver defends it easily.
Steele seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Carver in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Steele misses with a head kick.
Steele shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Steele takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Steele has a takedown stuffed.
Carver is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Steele.
Steele fails with the takedown.
Clay Carver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gus Steele.
Steele slaps away a takedown attempt from Carver, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Steele stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Steele wants it to stay on the feet.
Steele doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Carver counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Carver fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Steele throws a wild body kick that Carver sees coming a mile off.
Carver attempts a counter takedown but Steele avoids it well and moves away.
Steele shoots in for a double leg but Carver sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
An inside leg kick from Steele misses.

Steele drives through and clinches with Carver against the cage.

Carver escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Steele finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Steele tries to clinch but Carver moves out of range.
Carver misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Steele darts in and clinches Carver up against the cage.
Carver tries to pull guard but Steele forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Carver takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Steele has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Carver avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Steele is looking for a takedown.
Steele tries to pull guard but Carver won't allow it.

Steele pulls guard.
Carver tries to free his leg and advance position but Steele is retaining full guard.
Carver tries to stand but Steele is controlling from the bottom.

Steele looking for subs off his back but Carver has passed one foot through into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Steele wants to improve his position but Carver is controlling well.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Gus Steele.
I think Steele has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
