PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shaun Irwin (ranked 2200 p4p, 2274 weight class) and Jack Cango (ranked 276 p4p, 285 weight class). Irwin comes to the cage accompanied by No More Heroes. Cango has chosen Into Action by Tim Armstrong as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Shaun Irwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Cango!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cango throws a head kick but Irwin moves out of range.
Irwin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cango throws out the jab.
Cango throws a hook but Irwin blocks it.
Cango uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Irwin.

Irwin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Cango!
Irwin tries to advance to mount but Cango denies him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Irwin is looking to take a break and control but Cango is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Irwin stands up and beckons Cango to his feet.

Cango moves out of range of the body kick from Irwin.
Cango clobbers Irwin with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Jack Cango seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Irwin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Cango.
Cango misses with a hook. Irwin ducked under it nicely.
Irwin tries to clinch up.
Cango doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Cango throws a front kick aimed at Irwin's knee but Irwin avoids it well.

Irwin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Cango lands with a thumping leg kick.
A left lands for Cango.
Cango slaps away a takedown attempt from Irwin, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Cango rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Irwin counters by moving into the clinch.
Cango is pressed up against the cage. Irwin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cango down to the mat. Cango avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Cango stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shaun Irwin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cango turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Cango slips under a jab from Irwin.
Irwin takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Irwin drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Cango misses with a body punch
and Irwin counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Cango lands a right hook to the body.
Irwin shoots in looking for a takedown. Cango tries to sprawl out of it but Irwin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cango manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Cango with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Cango chopping away at his opponent's legs.
A jab lands there for Cango.
Irwin takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Cango throws a jab when Irwin was well out of range.
Nice uppercut lands for Cango. That snapped Irwin's head back.
Irwin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Cango scoring well with a low kick there.
Cango cracks Irwin with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Cango lands a nice shot to the body.
A slapping leg kick lands for Cango.
Cango will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cango is looking to chop away at Irwin's legs.
Irwin is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Cango throws a body kick that misses

and Irwin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Cango won't allow Irwin to pass to mount.
Irwin trying to control the pace.
Cango looks like he's trying to stand up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Irwin in particular looking to stall.
Cango keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Cango dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Cango cracks a nice hook into Irwin's ribs.
Cango throws a hook but Irwin blocks it.
Irwin is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Cango.
A low kick from Cango misses

and Irwin counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Cango tries to kick Irwin off in order to stand up. Irwin Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Cango wants to get back to his feet but Irwin is dominant here and he's now got Cango's back!
Cango is trying to stand back up.

Irwin tries to keep control of the position but Cango is staying busy.

Irwin lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Cango.
Will Irwin go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cango is trying to shake Irwin off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Irwin won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.
Cango throws a shot from downtown. Irwin moves away and avoids it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Irwin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jack Cango is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Irwin slips a jab from Cango.
Irwin is looking to counter the offense by Cango and move into the clinch.
Cango fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Irwin on the side of the head.
Irwin is looking to clinch but Cango is avoiding it.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Cango.
Irwin takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Cango fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Irwin has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Cango cracks Irwin with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cango throws a jab but it's blocked by Irwin.
Irwin blocks a jab.
Cango throws a looping overhand right but Irwin ducks down to avoid it.
A decent looking cross lands there for Cango.

Irwin is rocked!
Irwin is keeping his hands low and just asking to be knocked out. Cango Raises his leg and lands a stunning axe kick! Irwin is out cold, face down on the mat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Jack Cango!
Jack Cango seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
In defeat, Shaun Irwin stepped up to the mic, saying 'I would say that he is the better fighter, but I would be lying.'.
