Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Mendez (ranked 922 p4p, 3274 weight class) and Pellinore Listenoise (ranked 111 p4p, 348 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Listenoise closes the distance and clinches.
Mendez lands a body punch in the clinch.
Mendez throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Mendez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Listenoise is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mendez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Mendez looks to land a right hand but Listenoise moved out of range.
Listenoise wants to counter with a clinch but Mendez pushes him away.

and Mendez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Listenoise's guard.

Mendez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Listenoise has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mendez has managed to get both his arms back between Listenoise's legs - danger averted.
Listenoise has momentary wrist control but Mendez slips an elbow through the middle.

Mendez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mendez gets to his feet and stands over Listenoise, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Listenoise felt that one! Mendez unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Listenoise from any more punishment!
