Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Maverick (ranked 5586 p4p, 3232 weight class) and Islam Ali (ranked 458 p4p, 359 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Islam Ali!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ali throws a good cross that connects.

Maverick scores with a kick to the midsection.
Ali just misses with a punch to the body.
Maverick lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Ali throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
The crowd cheers as Maverick lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ali doesn't seem phased though.

Ali shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

I was talking to Maverick's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Maverick creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
It looks like Islam Ali has been cut.

Maverick can't find room to land a body shot as Ali controls the action.

Maverick tries to throw a body punch but Ali avoids it by throwing Maverick back against the cage.
Ali breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Maverick bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Ali's head.
Ali will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ali on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
A nice inside leg kick there by Maverick. That's going to slow Ali down.
Ali has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ali using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Maverick has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Ali is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Maverick is defending well for now.
Maverick breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Maverick connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Maverick lands a big head kick that sends Ali to the canvas! Maverick follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Daniel Maverick was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
