PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Bamber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rog Roundboy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Bamber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rog Roundboy!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Kavanagh and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bamber stuffs the takedown.
Roundboy moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

and Roundboy counters with a single leg into guard. Bamber didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bamber is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bamber manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Roundboy manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bamber wants to control from the top but Roundboy keeps moving.

Roundboy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bamber does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Roundboy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bamber swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Roundboy would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Roundboy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Roundboy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bamber keeps working.

Roundboy postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Bamber to stand up.

Roundboy shoots in but Bamber avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Roundboy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bamber's guard.
Roundboy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Roundboy makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Roundboy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bamber has his foot on Roundboy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Roundboy works his way back into a safe position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bamber can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Roundboy controls the pace.

Bamber will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That was a close round but I would say that John Bamber will probably get the nod.

Roundboy decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Roundboy wants to take a breather but Bamber is having none of it.
Bamber won't allow Roundboy to pass to mount.

Roundboy has control of Bamber's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Bamber regains control of the situation pretty easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Roundboy is trying to control the action in half guard but Bamber is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Roundboy bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Bamber is persistently looking for the submission but Roundboy is defending it well.

You can see the frustration on Roundboy's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Bamber is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Roundboy knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Roundboy for a finish.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Bamber will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Bamber.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bamber, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
