Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shontavius Smiff (ranked 3780 p4p, 3777 weight class) and Darius Hayes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hayes swings for the body but Smiff moves out of range.
Hayes darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Hayes misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smiff.
Smiff rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Hayes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Hayes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Despite the aggression on Hayes's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Shontavius Smiff seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smiff throws a big shot that misses.
Smiff wants to clinch but Hayes slips to the side
and Hayes counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hayes lands a right hook to the body.

Hayes looks to throw the jab but Smiff is out of range.
Hayes misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smiff.
Smiff throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hayes is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Smiff with a body shot.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Smiff.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Hayes misses with a wild body shot.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hayes throws a poor cross that misses

and Smiff counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Hayes!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smiff in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Hayes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smiff. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hayes is trying to control Smiff's posture but Smiff avoids it.
Hayes is trying to work for a sweep but Smiff has mounted him!
Smiff lands a nice shot to the head.
Smiff landing strikes from the mount and Hayes is in trouble!

Hayes tries to reverse the position but Smiff maintains control.

Smiff has hold of Hayes's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Hayes manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
BOOM! Smiff connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Smiff is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Smiff looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Smiff has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smiff avoids the attempt from Hayes to control.
Smiff trying to control but Hayes is having none of it.
Smiff fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Smiff is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hayes is surviving well by controlling Smiff's body position as best he can.
Hayes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hayes can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hayes takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Shontavius Smiff dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hayes is trying to break the clinch but Smiff is controlling him.
Hayes wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Smiff has him pressed against the cage.
Smiff is trying to drag Hayes to the mat but Hayes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Smiff tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Smiff is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hayes to keep the fight standing.
Smiff jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hayes walks away with a smile on his face. Smiff gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shontavius Smiff. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smiff gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hayes.
Smiff throws an off balance right hand
and Hayes counters with a nice uppercut.
Smiff closes the distance looking to clinch

Smiff throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A little jabbing left from Hayes on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Smiff is looking to score with low kicks.
Smiff tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hayes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smiff somewhat.

Hayes swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Smiff.
Smiff misses with a takedown attempt
and Hayes counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Smiff misses with a jab to the body
and Smiff takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Darius Hayes seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Smiff tries to work over Hayes's front leg with a kick but Hayes checks it.
A nice side step and Hayes releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Hayes connects with a good right hand that stumbles Smiff. Smiff circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

enabling Hayes to counter with a crisp jab.
A swing and a miss from Hayes.
Hayes thuds a left hand into Smiff's body.
Hayes moves out of range as Smiff strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hayes fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Hayes swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Smiff attempts a counter takedown but Hayes avoids it well and moves away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Darius Hayes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

letting Hayes counter with a right hand.

Hayes throws out a counter right but Smiff avoids it with no problem.
Hayes lands a slapping body shot.
Smiff goes for a double leg but Hayes avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hayes continues to drive forward.

Hayes is looking to stand up but Smiff won't let him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shontavius Smiff overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smiff manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hayes manages to get himself to full guard.

Smiff wants to pass the guard but Hayes is keeping the position.
Smiff postures up and lands a big shot to Hayes's brow.
Smiff is fighting to break Hayes's control of his arms but Hayes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Hayes wants to sweep here but Smiff controlling him for the moment.

Smiff trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Smiff drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smiff jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Smiff tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hayes swivels and escapes.
Smiff tries to clinch up
and Hayes counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Hayes scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Smiff doesn't seem bothered though.
Smiff takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Hayes dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Smiff tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hayes defends well and Smiff ends up having to push Hayes into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Hayes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
