PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Fili (ranked 4238 p4p, 4236 weight class) and Arlington Carlyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Anderson Fili!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Arlington Carlyle!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlyle throws a nice looking combination but Fili bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Fili looking to score a takedown here. Carlyle is defending well but Fili drives through and ends up in Carlyle's guard.
Fili forces his way into half guard.
Fili is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Fili moves into full mount! Carlyle won't be happy about that!
Fili looking to ground and pound but Carlyle is blocking nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fili controlling the pace for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fili thowing shots but they're missing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fili wants to finish this one by submission but Carlyle is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Fili.
Fili sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Carlyle really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fili. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fili lands a nice shot to the head.

Fili is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Carlyle to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Carlyle shrugs it off.

Fili is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Carlyle has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Carlyle is bucking up trying to escape but Fili cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Carlyle tries to buck Fili off but Fili takes his back!
Fili just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Fili dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Carlyle throws a jab when Fili was well out of range.

Carlyle wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Fili manages to pass to side control.

Fili moves nicely into side control.
An elbow from Fili crashes against the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Fili decides to stand back up. Fili steps back and let's Carlyle get back to his feet.

Carlyle tries to keep at a distance but Fili has taken the fight into the clinch.

Fili manages to break the clinch.
Carlyle throws a body shot but no joy.
Fili uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Carlyle.
Fili swats away the attempt to clinch by Carlyle.
Fili is looking for a counter combo.

Fili dives in and scores a takedown into Carlyle's guard.
Carlyle is looking to stand back up but Fili counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Carlyle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Fili is taking a breather. Carlyle says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Fili is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Carlyle doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fili.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Fili is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Carlyle sees it coming and defends easily.

Fili is looking for a kimura but Carlyle is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fili to get the leverage.
Fili throwing shots but Carlyle is blocking nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Still in half guard, Fili seems content to control.

Fili stands up from half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Fili dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Fili gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Fili shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Fili tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fili has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Anderson Fili overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fili tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Fili decides to stand up, so the ref orders Carlyle to his feet.

Fili closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Carlyle to the mat! Carlyle manages to get full guard.
Carlyle is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Fili dives into side control.

Fili is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Carlyle can do to turn this around?
Carlyle gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Poor strikes thrown by Fili there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Fili working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Arlington Carlyle has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Fili moves to take his opponent's back.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fili biding his time, controlling Carlyle.

Fili is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Carlyle knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Carlyle for a finish.
Carlyle covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

Fili working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Anderson Fili is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Fili punches the canvas rather than the man.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anderson Fili showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fili, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
