PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Silva (ranked 1584 p4p, 1239 weight class) and Juan Carlos (ranked 237 p4p, 191 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Juan Carlos enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Carlos!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva takes a swing at Carlos's ribcage but misses.
Carlos throws a right hand that Silva ducks under and follows up with a left that Silva also avoids with ease.
Silva shoots in looking for a takedown but Carlos manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Silva's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nice defenses there by Silva.
Silva feinted with a counter takedown.
Carlos tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Carlos catches Silva with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Carlos throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Silva stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Silva misses the jab.
Carlos throws out a counter right but Silva avoids it with no problem.
Carlos avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A slow jab from Carlos misses its intended target.
A jab from Silva misses.
Silva throws out a loose jab but Carlos uses good head movement to avoid it.
Carlos swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Carlos stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carlos wants it to stay on the feet.
Carlos throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
We've been hearing reports that Silva has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Carlos ducks right into an uppercut from Silva.
Silva misses with an uppercut. Carlos saw that one coming.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carlos's jab looks to have found its range, popping Silva under the eye.

Nice uppercut lands for Carlos. That snapped Silva's head back.

Carlos cracks Silva with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Carlos might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Carlos throws a hook but Silva avoids it easily.

Silva looks to score with a jab to the body but Carlos is just out of range.
Carlos lands with a kick to the temple. Silva shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Silva tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Carlos was well out of range. Poor timing from Silva.
Carlos uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Silva.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carlos sprawls well. Carlos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.

Alex Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Carlos throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Silva was covering up waiting for the punch and Carlos finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Silva is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Carlos is looking for a sweep. Silva is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Carlos has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Silva seems to be looking for submissions.
Carlos is trying to get back to full guard.

Silva is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Silva throwing strikes from guard but Carlos blocks nicely.

Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carlos swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Silva will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Silva changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carlos tries to avoid it but Silva manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carlos to the ground. Carlos escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Carlos looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Carlos throws a right and a left that both miss.

Silva connects with a body shot.
Carlos avoids the body shot from Silva.
Carlos raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Carlos lands a head kick. Silva smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Silva fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carlos manages to avoid it.

Carlos feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Silva's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Carlos tries to roll over but Silva keeps him under control.
Silva working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carlos keeps working.

Silva slips a nice elbow through Carlos's hands, connecting with Carlos's forehead.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carlos has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Silva is working away from the top position though.
Juan Carlos is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Juan Carlos.
Well Carlos has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
