PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Levine (ranked 4149 p4p, 3550 weight class) and Hito Ikeda (ranked 436 p4p, 337 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dustin Levine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hito Ikeda !
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ikeda cracks Levine with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Levine closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ikeda did well to prevent Levine getting side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ikeda can do anything to dispel that myth.
Levine wants to stand up but Ikeda is controlling the position.

Levine looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Levine is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ikeda is just riding it out for now. Levine eventually gives up the hold.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Levine is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Ikeda is trying to stand back up but Levine is controlling him
Levine is keen to just control but Ikeda is a slippery customer.

Levine is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Ikeda really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Levine. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ikeda kicks off Levine and gets to his feet.

Ikeda looking to score a takedown here. Levine is defending well but Ikeda drives through and ends up in Levine's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ikeda is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Levine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ikeda scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Ikeda connects with a couple of short punches.

Levine looking for a guillotine here but Ikeda defends easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Ikeda stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Ikeda moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Levine tries to sprawl but Ikeda drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Levine gets full guard.
Levine bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ikeda 's guard.

Levine is breathing heavily.
Ikeda wants to stand up but Levine is controlling him.

Levine thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Levine postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ikeda is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Levine, into his guard.


Ikeda avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Levine has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ikeda can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ikeda decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Levine has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Ikeda throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Levine.
Levine feinted with a counter takedown.
A nice combination there by Ikeda .
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ikeda moves into range and clinches up with Levine.
Levine wants a takedown but no success here.

Ikeda jumps guard and drags Levine to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Ikeda is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Levine is controlling him.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hito Ikeda dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ikeda decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Levine looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Ikeda scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Ikeda looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Levine works his way to full guard. Good work.
Ikeda working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Levine's head.
Ikeda lands a couple of decent looking shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ikeda looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Ikeda postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Levine working for a triangle but Ikeda defends it easily.
Ikeda pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Levine is keeping the position for now.
Levine keeping moving, preventing Ikeda from controlling successfully.

Ikeda got a little sloppy there for a moment and Levine has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ikeda has managed to get both his arms back between Levine's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ikeda distracts Levine with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Ikeda seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ikeda is working Levine over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Ikeda has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Levine drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Levine as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Ikeda screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Levine! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Dustin Levine!
After the fight, Dustin Levine was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
