PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lorato Nyambe (ranked 24075 p4p, 2856 weight class) and Roelof Gerritzen (ranked 0 p4p, 382 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lorato Nyambe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roelof Gerritzen!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gerritzen keeps the fight on the outside.
Nyambe throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Gerritzen counters with a shoot takedown. Nyambe fights it but they end up in guard.
Gerritzen stays in close to Nyambe's body and controls the position.
Gerritzen has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Sparks gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Gerritzen passes Nyambe's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gerritzen lands with a punch from half guard.
Gerritzen is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gerritzen winds up and cracks Nyambe with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like Gerritzen might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Gerritzen is continuing to stall.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gerritzen works his way into side control.
Gerritzen just content to control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nyambe shoots in for a takedown but Gerritzen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
And Gerritzen tries to counter it with a takedown but Nyambe pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Nyambe shoots in looking for a takedown but Gerritzen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Nyambe's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Nyambe is looking to stand back up but Gerritzen counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Nyambe.
Nyambe is breathing heavily.

Gerritzen is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Gerritzen's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Roelof Gerritzen dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Nyambe shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gerritzen sprawls well. Gerritzen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nyambe gets slowly back to his feet.
Gerritzen drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Nyambe defends it well.

Gerritzen darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gerritzen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gerritzen working over Nyambe with some ground and pound. Nyambe looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Nice strikes from Gerritzen there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gerritzen slows the pace down in half guard.
Gerritzen slips a nice elbow through Nyambe's hands, connecting with Nyambe's forehead.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gerritzen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Nyambe trying to get back to full guard but Gerritzen takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Nyambe looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

The adventures of Gerritzen the control monster continue. Boring.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee warns Nyambe that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Gerritzen looking to control and managing it successfully.

Gerritzen lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Gerritzen pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Roelof Gerritzen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Gerritzen shoots in and bounces Nyambe off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Gerritzen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Gerritzen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gerritzen is pushing down on Nyambe's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nyambe is fighting to maintain full guard but Gerritzen has managed to sneak the leg through.

Gerritzen moves nicely into side control.
Gerritzen moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Gerritzen passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Nyambe!

Gerritzen is landing with some decent strikes but Nyambe is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Let's hope that Gerritzen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
BOOM! Gerritzen connects with a massive shot to the dome!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Roelof Gerritzen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Gerritzen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
