PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mitch McGee (ranked 4078 p4p, 2467 weight class) and Mickey Backman (ranked 0 p4p, 330 weight class). McGee comes to the cage accompanied by Survivor - Eye of the Tiger. Mickey Backman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mitch McGee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mickey Backman!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, David Schapiro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGee shoots for a double leg takedown but Backman sprawls well. He's pushed McGee's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mitch McGee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGee misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Backman counters with a good low kick that McGee was not able to check.
McGee really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
McGee throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Backman's waist but Backman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McGee off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mitch McGee. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Backman counters with a single leg into guard. McGee didn't expect that.
Backman passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Backman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McGee is just riding it out for now. Backman eventually gives up the hold.
McGee knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Backman on the ground.

McGee is trying to stand up here but Backman is controlling him well.

Backman is looking for a kimura but McGee is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Backman to get the leverage.
Backman scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
McGee is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Backman scores with a couple of nice shots.
Backman content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Backman looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Backman takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Backman frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Backman is landing with some decent strikes but McGee is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Backman fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Backman tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Backman is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! McGee is forced to tap! Great finish!
