PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rufino Gracie (ranked 1138 p4p, 994 weight class) and Lester Green (ranked 63 p4p, 55 weight class). Green has chosen This Is Beetle as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rufino Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Lester Green!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Green ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.
Green misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Gracie tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Green manages to circle out of the way.
Gracie lands a nice shot that snaps Green's head back.
Gracie looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Green connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gracie's hands.
Green lands with a nice body punch.
Green swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Gracie feinted with a counter takedown.
A telegraphed right hand from Gracie misses the target.
Gracie ducks under a wild hook from Green.
Gracie throws out a powerful jab.

Gracie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Green has his feet on Gracie's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Green throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Green throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lester Green will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Gracie uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Green.
A slapping body kick lands there for Green.
Gracie feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Greens jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Green misses with a hook.
Gracie tries to counter with a takedown but Green is quick to defend against it.
A telegraphed right hand from Gracie misses the target.
Green throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gracie sees it coming and avoids it easily.

and Green counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

The crowd cheers as Green lands an impressive looking overhand right. Gracie doesn't seem phased though.

Green gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gracie to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Green manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Gracie's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Green manages to break the clinch.
Gracie tries to close the distance and clinch up but Green swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Green! But no joy.
Green fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gracie manages to avoid it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Green throws a big shot that misses.
Gracie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gracie changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Gracie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Gracie lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Green has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Green and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Gracie wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Green throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Green.

and Gracie counters with a shoot takedown. Green fights it but they end up in guard.
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Green is retaining full guard.

Lester Green showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Green felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
