The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Voluspa moves away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Voluspa is defended easily by Smith.
Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Voluspa takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Smith lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Voluspa has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Voluspa and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Voluspa working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Voluspa shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Voluspa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Voluspa shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Voluspa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Oooooh!!! Smith has knocked Voluspa down with a huge combo! Smith steps away and waves a wobbly Voluspa back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
