The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Shanahan with that takedown attempt.
Pena throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

It looks like Columbcille Shanahan has been cut.
Pena wants to clinch.
Shanahan fails with the takedown.

Shanahan closes the distance and pushes Pena back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pena wants to get back to striking at distance but Shanahan won't allow it.
Shanahan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Pena after a bit of a struggle.

Shanahan can't keep his opponent in guard - Pena advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pena not doing much here.

Pena lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Pena perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Shanahan looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Shanahan wants to improve his position but Pena is controlling well.
Shanahan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pena on the ground.

Pena stops Shanahan from getting back to his feet.

Pena is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Shanahan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Shanahan shrugs it off.
