PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alex Victorino (ranked 3929 p4p, 4505 weight class) and Suwanee Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Victorino has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Suwanee Davis is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Victorino!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Suwanee Davis!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, David Schapiro and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Davis closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Davis lands in his opponent's guard.
Davis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Davis looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Victorino is working an open guard so Davis takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Victorino misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Davis.
Davis throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Victorino throws a body shot but no joy.
Davis is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Davis shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Victorino napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Victorino is breathing heavily.
Victorino tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Davis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Davis is staying tight to Victorino's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Victorino is trying to work for a sweep but Davis has mounted him!
Davis controlling the position easily from mount.
Davis lands a nice shot to the head.

Davis looking to ground and pound but Victorino is blocking nicely.

Davis with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Davis working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Davis controlling from the full mount.
Victorino is looking to improve his position but Davis isn't that keen on the idea.
Davis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Victorino is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Suwanee Davis dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Davis shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Victorino manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Davis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Davis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Davis scores with a takedown into Victorino's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Davis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Suwanee Davis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Davis works a leg free and moves into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Davis escapes and gets back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Davis lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Victorino misses with a left hand

and Davis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Victorino's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Davis is stalling in the full guard.
Victorino knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Davis on the ground.

Let's hope that Davis has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Davis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Alex Victorino seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Davis throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Victorino.
As Davis looks to move away, Victorino throws a big counter combo but Davis just gets out of the way.

Victorino gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Davis to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Davis gets to his feet - Victorino follows without any prompting.
Davis misses with a two punch combination.

Davis gets the takedown into side control.
Victorino seems a little lost for a moment, as Davis dominates the positioning.

Davis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The strikes coming from Davis are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Victorino is being controlled here.

Davis stands up and beckons Victorino to his feet.

Davis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Victorino's guard.

Davis stands and steps away. Victorino gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Alex Victorino is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Davis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Davis engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Davis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Davis clinches.

Davis pulls guard effortlessly.

Victorino has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Davis to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Victorino is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Davis pulls down on the head and he's put Victorino to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Suwanee Davis!
