The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendy lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Mendy throws a big shot that misses.
Mendy lands with a good body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Layer. Mendy does a little dance to reset his feet.
Layer connects with the punch.
Mendy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Layer's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Mendy connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Layer scrambles back to his feet.
Mendy throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sloppy strikes from Layer. Those never looked like landing.
Layer works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

It looks like Pierre Ragout Mendy has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Layer moves into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pierre Ragout Mendy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mendy is working for takedown but Layer is calmly controlling the position for now.
Mendy blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Mendy drops down looking for an ankle pick but Layer pulls his leg out and moves away.
Mendy gets off balance looking for a body kick
enabling Layer to counter with a crisp jab.
Mendy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Layer but Layer pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mendy closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Willie Layer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Layer keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mendy misses with the combination.
Layer now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Layer with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Mendy to score with a decent uppercut.

Layer throws a shot from downtown. Mendy moves away and avoids it.
Mendy lands a really nice looking cross but Layer seems unphased.
Layer connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mendy throws a left and a right that both miss
and Layer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Mendy is rocked!
Layer throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Oh Mendy is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Layer fakes the body blow, causing Mendy to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Mendy goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!
