PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Carlos (ranked 2122 p4p, 2197 weight class) and Jacob White (ranked 259 p4p, 267 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Juan Carlos has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Juan Carlos seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Carlos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jacob White!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlos moves out of range as White throws a body kick.
White lands a nice shot that snaps Carlos's head back.
Carlos digs a good hook to White's body.
White swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
letting Carlos counter with a right hand.

Carlos closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. White quickly recovers to half guard.
Carlos sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. White defending well though.

Carlos is working for a kimura but White is defending it quite comfortably.
Carlos tries to pass to full mount but White defends it.
White is refusing to be controlled, as Carlos sits in half guard.

Carlos throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Carlos drops an elbow to the side of White's head.
Carlos performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Carlos is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
White is not content to let Carlos control the position.
Carlos takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Carlos seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but White does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Carlos not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Carlos is looking to stall here but White recovers full guard.
Carlos trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Carlos trying to control the position from guard on top but White is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carlos is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because White is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
White utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

White is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jacob White seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carlos throws a sloppy head kick and White moves out of range easily.
Carlos swings widly with a right hand
and White counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A nice inside leg kick there by Carlos. That's going to slow White down.
White scores with a jab to the jaw.
Carlos lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Carlos takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

White throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Carlos misses with an uppercut. White saw that one coming.
White throws a leg kick but Carlos checks it.
Carlos misses with a head kick.
Carlos misses with a right hand
and White connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
This has been an exciting period of action!
White slips a jab from Carlos.
White looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A quick step to the side and Carlos tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
White lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by White.

It looks like Juan Carlos has been cut.
White rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Carlos moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Carlos slips a jab from White.
White throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
White walks into a jab.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Carlos will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Carlos darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
White blocks a head kick by Carlos.
Carlos scoring well with a low kick there.
Carlos misses with a leg kick
and White connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Carlos throws a sloppy head kick
and White counters with a nice uppercut.
White misses with a jab, cross combination.
Carlos throwing a counter right hand but White manages to avoid it.
Jacob White seems to be getting the better of the standup.
White swinging wildly here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White misses with a double jab.
Carlos is looking to counter the offense by White and move into the clinch.

White clinches up against the cage.
Carlos misses with a shot to the kidneys.
White blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Carlos misses with a knee strike.
Carlos is looking to control White's arms but White gets an underhook and turns him. Now Carlos has his back to the cage.
White lands an elbow inside that Carlos shrugs off.
The referee is keeping an eye on White - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Carlos lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
A right hook to the body lands for White.
Carlos can't find room to land a body shot as White controls the action.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Carlos doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
White makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
White lands an elbow inside.
Carlos doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Carlos misses with a short punch on the inside.
White blocks an uppercut.
White effectively controlling the action here.

Carlos goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Nice elbow from White.
White lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Carlos is rocked!

Juan Carlos's cut is getting worse.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carlos tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

White pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
White throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Carlos counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Carlos bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Carlos goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, White has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Carlos but great work by White.
Carlos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but White wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Juan Carlos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Carlos is trying to escape the position but White is controlling the position.
Carlos is holding White down, trying to stall.
A lull in the action here.

Carlos is trying to get back to half guard.
White misses with the ground and pound.
White creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Carlos sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carlos is looking to regain half guard here but White keeps moving and retains side control.
White is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Carlos will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
What's Carlos going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Carlos wants to control but White postures up.
Carlos sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Carlos is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute White jumps into side control!
Carlos is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Desert Fitness & Training (14 Elite Coaches), so we'll see if he gets out of it.
White is looking to take a break and control but Carlos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
White moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Carlos is looking to reverse the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jacob White showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

White checks the leg kick.
White tries to land a leg kick but Carlos saw it coming and moves away.
White misses with the combination.

and White counters with a lovely straight right hand!
White has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Carlos shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in White's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carlos controls the pace.

Carlos distracts White with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
White is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Carlos lands a leg kick that knocks White off balance momentarily.
Jacob White is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

A left and a right from White both land. Nice combination.
A right-left combo lands from White.
Oh Carlos is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
White fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Carlos to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Carlos looks to clinch but White throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Carlos taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Jacob White!
Jacob White decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
