PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alejandro Laguera (ranked 4444 p4p, 4153 weight class) and Dan Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Morgan's choice of entrance music: Wellerman (Sea Shanty). Dan Morgan will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alejandro Laguera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Morgan!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morgan misses with a double jab.
Morgan throws a front kick that sends Laguera stumbling back into the cage.
Laguera fails with a takedown attempt.
Morgan tries to clinch up but Laguera circles away and keeps his distance.
Laguera fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Morgan leaves Laguera with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alejandro Laguera. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Morgan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morgan's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Morgan duly obliges.
Morgan fails with a takedown attempt.
Laguera doesn't manage to clinch there - Morgan circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Laguera shoots for a double leg takedown but Morgan sprawls well. He's pushed Laguera's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Morgan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Morgan pulls guard successfully.
Laguera postures up.

Morgan has his foot on Laguera's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Laguera works his way back into a safe position though.

Laguera avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Morgan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Laguera wants to control from the top but Morgan keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Laguera wants to stand but Morgan is controlling his posture from full guard.
Morgan is trying to control the position but Laguera postures up.
Laguera trying to control but Morgan is working from the bottom.
Morgan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Morgan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Laguera defends well.

Laguera controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Laguera got a little sloppy there for a moment and Morgan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Laguera has managed to get both his arms back between Morgan's legs - danger averted.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Morgan is on top in guard.


Laguera looking for a guillotine here but Morgan defends easily.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Morgan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Morgan dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

No luck for Morgan with that takedown attempt.
Morgan connects with an inside leg kick.
Alejandro Laguera is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Morgan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Laguera, pushing him back against the cage.
Laguera fails to pull guard.
Morgan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Laguera pulls Morgan into guard.
Laguera keeping moving, preventing Morgan from controlling successfully.

Laguera throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Morgan escapes and throws Laguera's legs to the side, diving into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Laguera can't do much from the bottom here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Morgan is working to tighten his grip on Laguera's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Laguera has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Morgan is really squeezing tight and eventually Laguera passes out! Morgan breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Dan Morgan!
After winning the bout, Dan Morgan thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
