PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Rebenta (ranked 1832 p4p, 1537 weight class) and Kirov Sturmovik (ranked 254 p4p, 225 weight class). Kirov Sturmovik will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricardo Rebenta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kirov Sturmovik!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sturmovik tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've been told by Rebenta's head coaches at Roosters Coop that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Rebenta scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Rebenta tries to move into full mount but can't pass Sturmovik's legs.

Rebenta looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Sturmovik wants to get back to his feet but Rebenta drags him back down.
Sturmovik told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Rebenta tries to advance to mount but Sturmovik denies him.
Sturmovik is trying to buck Rebenta off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rebenta goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Sturmovik is on top in guard.

Rebenta wants to get back to full guard.

Rebenta moves into full guard.
Sturmovik stopping the sweep attempt from Rebenta.
Sturmovik must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Rebenta is working hard here to advance position.

Rebenta is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sturmovik has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rebenta is proving hard to escape from.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Rebenta looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sturmovik is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sturmovik looks to land a right hand but Rebenta moved out of range.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Rebenta gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sturmovik counters with a series of strikes. Rebenta will be more careful next time no doubt.
Sturmovik displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rebenta.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rebenta trying to mount his opponent but Sturmovik defends it.
Rebenta working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Sturmovik's thigh. Sturmovik counters though and makes it back to full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kirov Sturmovik will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Sturmovik stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sturmovik wants it to stay on the feet.
Rebenta slips a jab from Sturmovik.
Sturmovik scores with the left hand. Rebenta knows he should have avoided that one.

Rebenta is rocked!
Sturmovik weaves into range and cracks Rebenta right on the temple with a beautiful overhand right! Rebenta goes down! He's out cold! Wow, what a beautiful knockout! Sturmovik is strutting round the canvas like a movie star as the camera bulbs flash frantically.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kirov Sturmovik!
A very excited looking Kirov Sturmovik made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
