PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Broder Alert (ranked 2496 p4p, 1771 weight class) and Ryder Stephens (ranked 293 p4p, 214 weight class). On his way into the ring it seems that Broder Alert has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Broder Alert seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Peter Branson and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stephens shoots in for a double leg but Alert sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Alert tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Stephens manages to circle out of the way.
Alert moves out of range as Stephens strikes.
Alert dives in for a single leg takedown but Stephens sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.
Stephens is working for takedown but Alert is calmly controlling the position for now.
Stephens is trying to stall.

Alert has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Stephens is trying to keep an underhook but Alert manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Alert is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stephens doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Alert.

Alert is stalling here. Stephens is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Alert seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Stephens has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Alert definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Stephens is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Alert is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stephens fails to move to back control.
Alert is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Alert has given up his back here. Will Stephens look for the submission or keep pounding away?

Stephens is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Alert has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Alert is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Alert darts in looking for a takedown but Stephens gets double underhooks and turns Alert into the ropes.
Alert has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Stephens avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Stephens is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the ropes enables Alert to keep the fight standing.

Alert has Stephens pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Alert pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Stephens tumbling to the mat - Alert dives into Stephens's guard.

Stephens escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alert gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

My spies in Cozad The Island inform me that Stephens has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Stephens seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alert does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Alert is looking for a sweep. Stephens is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Stephens wants to pass the guard but Alert is defending well.

Stephens lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Alert circles away quickly and effectively.

Stephens bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Stephens works to advance to full mount. Alert defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Stephens goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Alert is on top in guard.

Stephens looking for a triangle here. Alert is fighting it but it looks tight! Stephens pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Alert is tapping out - this one is all over!
