PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rick Richardson (ranked 818 p4p, 2406 weight class) and Jack Goff (ranked 50 p4p, 136 weight class). Richardson comes to the cage accompanied by Make The Money. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rick Richardson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Goff!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goff shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Richardson connects with the punch.

Goff is rocked!
Goff tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Richardson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Goff is still on wobbly legs! Can Richardson finish him?
Richardson swats away the attempt to clinch by Goff.
Richardson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Goff seems to have recovered his senses.

Goff moves into the clinch successfully.
Goff tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Richardson scores with a nice hook to the head.
Goff jumps guard but Richardson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Richardson lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Goff backwards.
Goff blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Richardson lands a right hand.
Goff tries to pull guard but Richardson forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Rick Richardson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Goff.
Richardson throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Goffs head.
Richardson lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Richardson lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Richardson lands with a right to the head.

Goff decides to pull guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Richardson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Richardson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Richardson passes into half guard.

Richardson is trying to control the action in half guard but Goff is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Richardson seems to be looking for submissions.
Richardson content to control rather than advance.
Richardson wants to take a breather but Goff is having none of it.

Richardson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Richardson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Richardson prevents Goff from improving his position.
Richardson trying to control the action but Goff is working from the bottom.
Richardson wants to pass to mount but Goff is defending the position.

Richardson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Goff is looking to control Richardson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Goff avoid being mounted?

Richardson is trying to work for a kimura but Goff is defending well.
Richardson controlling the action here.
Goff has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Richardson is working away from the top position though.
Richardson works his way into side control.

Richardson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Richardson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Richardson is looking to take a break and control but Goff is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Goff wants to control but Richardson postures up.
Richardson passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Goff!

Richardson working for a submission but Goff is keeping him at bay.
Goff is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Richardson wants to control the pace but Goff is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Richardson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Goff turns into him and now he's in Richardson's guard.
Richardson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Goff drops back, looking for a kneebar! Richardson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Richardson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Richardson!


Richardson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Goff is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Richardson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Goff is looking to regain half guard here but Richardson keeps moving and retains side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Richardson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Goff tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Richardson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jack Goff is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Goff takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Goff walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Goff tries to clinch there but Richardson circles away.

Goff moves into the clinch successfully.
Richardson is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Goff is keeping busy.
Richardson lands an uppercut.
Richardson lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Goff backwards.
Goff is trying to pull guard but Richardson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Richardson throws a head punch that misses.
Goff blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Richardson lands with a light punch inside.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Goff.
Richardson lands a right hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Richardson throws a punch but it's blocked by Goff.

Goff decides to pull guard.
Richardson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Goff is keeping the position for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Goff working a defensive guard here.

Goff looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Richardson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Goff escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Richardson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Richardson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Richardson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Goff swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Richardson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Goff has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Richardson has managed to get both his arms back between Goff's legs - danger averted.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Goff working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Richardson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Richardson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Richardson passes Goff's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Richardson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Goff!

Richardson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Goff manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Richardson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Goff can do to turn this around?
Richardson moves into full mount!
Goff is looking to get to half guard.

Richardson goes for an armbar but Goff turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Goff.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Goff sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Richardson doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Goff paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Richardson - great work!
