Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pietro Abruzzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Wheldon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pietro Abruzzi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kevin Wheldon!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abruzzi loads up on a big right hand but Wheldon slips the punch.
Wheldon throws a head kick that misses.
Wheldon takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Wheldon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Abruzzi tries to avoid it but Wheldon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Abruzzi to the ground. Abruzzi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wheldon misses with a takedown attempt - Abruzzi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Abruzzi throws a shot from downtown. Wheldon moves away and avoids it.

Wheldon has a takedown stuffed.
Pietro Abruzzi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Wheldon.
Wheldon shoots in for a double leg but Abruzzi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wheldon on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Abruzzi misses with a double jab.

Abruzzi lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Wheldon moves out of range of the body kick.
Abruzzi sizes up Wheldon with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Wheldon takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Wheldon closes the distance and clinches up with Abruzzi, looking for a takedown. Wheldon pushes Abruzzi against the cage but Abruzzi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Wheldon looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Wheldon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Wheldon stops Abruzzi from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice takedown defense from Abruzzi. No joy for Wheldon on that attempt.
Abruzzi leaves Wheldon with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Abruzzi looks to throw the jab but Wheldon is out of range.

Wheldon takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Abruzzi works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Abruzzi scores with a nice right hand.
Wheldon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Abruzzi as he jumps to the side.
Abruzzi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wheldon.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wheldon moves out of range as Abruzzi strikes.
Abruzzi slips a jab from Wheldon.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wheldon takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Abruzzi connects with a right hand. Wheldon shakes it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Abruzzi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Wheldon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Abruzzi pinned against the cage. Abruzzi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Abruzzi throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Wheldon stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

A right-left combo lands from Abruzzi.
Wheldon tries for a takedown but Abruzzi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Abruzzi tries to clinch there but Wheldon circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Abruzzi throws a hook but Wheldon blocks it.
Abruzzi misses with a straight right.
Wheldon shoots in looking for a takedown. Abruzzi tries to sprawl out of it but Wheldon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Abruzzi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Abruzzi throws a sloppy head kick
and Wheldon makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wheldon fails to land the takedown.
Wheldon takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Wheldon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Abruzzi as he jumps to the side.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Abruzzi moves into the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pietro Abruzzi showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Abruzzi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
