PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quincy Veto (ranked 4654 p4p, 4756 weight class) and Vladimir Makarov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Quincy Veto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Makarov!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makarov keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A slow jab from Veto misses its intended target.
Veto throws an ugly left hook that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Makarov closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Makarov just content to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Veto dodges the ground and pound from Makarov.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Makarov has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Veto misses with a straight right.

Makarov closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Makarov wants a takedown but no success here.

Makarov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Makarov shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Veto throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Makarov shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Veto napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Makarov decides to stand up, so the ref orders Veto to his feet.
Veto paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Makarov forces Veto back against the cage and clinches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Veto scores with a shot to the side of Makarov's head.

Makarov lands a body shot.

Makarov ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Makarov no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Makarov throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Veto got a little sloppy there for a moment and Makarov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Veto has managed to get both his arms back between Makarov's legs - danger averted.

Makarov has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Veto has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Veto fails to land.
Makarov is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Makarov manages to break the clinch.
Makarov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Makarov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Veto.
Veto throws an overhand right that lands on Makarov's shoulder, as Makarov tries to avoid the shot.
Makarov takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Makarov takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Veto misses the shot to the body.

Veto gets caught flat footed, as Makarov shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Veto wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Makarov manages to pass to side control.


Makarov is looking for a kimura here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Makarov stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Veto ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Veto throws an overhand right that lands on Makarov's shoulder, as Makarov tries to avoid the shot.
Veto connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Makarov throws a left and a right that both miss
and Veto counters with a right hand to the body.
Veto throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Makarov sees it coming and avoids it easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

and Makarov makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Veto really felt that one!
Veto takes a swing at Makarov's ribcage but misses.
Veto sets himself, and Makarov steps forward looking for the clinch! Veto avoids it this time.
Quincy Veto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Makarov moves into the clinch.

Makarov ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Makarov no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Makarov is controlling Veto's posture.
Veto won't allow Makarov to sweep him here.

A close round but Vladimir Makarov will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Makarov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Veto's guard.
Makarov controls from within his opponent's guard.
Makarov is continuing to stall.
Makarov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Makarov is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like Quincy Veto has been cut.

Makarov looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Veto is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Veto is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Makarov has taken his back!

Let's hope that Makarov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Makarov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Makarov thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Quincy Veto has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Makarov is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Veto knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Veto for a finish.
Veto is trying to get back to his feet but Makarov has full control of the position and if anything, Veto has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Veto might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Makarov misses with an elbow to the head.
Veto knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Makarov on the ground.
