The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Carter paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Patterson wants to clinch up but Carter keeps it at a distance.
A chopping leg kick lands by Patterson.
Carter lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Carter.

Patterson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Patterson lands in his opponent's guard.
Patterson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carter can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Patterson controls the pace.

Patterson stands up from Carter's guard - Patterson perhaps looking for a knockout.

Patterson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Patterson tries to advance to mount but Carter denies him.
Carter is trying to get back to half guard.
Patterson trying to control the position but Carter is working away.
Carter is trying to improve his position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Patterson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carter has escaped the position, nice work there.
Carter regains half guard.
Patterson works his way into full mount!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carter wants to hold on but Patterson pushes him away.

Patterson trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Patterson moves to take his opponent's back.
Carter looks gassed!
Patterson really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Carter.
You can see the frustration on Carter's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Patterson struggling to keep hold of the position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Patterson really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Carter.

Patterson looking to break Carter's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Carter remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Patterson will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Patterson is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Carter has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Patterson has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Carter taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Patterson doesn't care though - he's delighted!
