PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Kalama (ranked 5891 p4p, 5967 weight class) and Dustin Mcfaul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kalama is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Frank Kalama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dustin Mcfaul!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcfaul shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kalama pinned against the cage. Kalama gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kalama is breathing heavily.
Kalama shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mcfaul sprawls well. Mcfaul wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kalama gets slowly back to his feet.
Mcfaul now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Mcfaul clinches with his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcfaul gets through Kalama's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Kalama wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Mcfaul is pressed up against the cage. Kalama has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mcfaul down to the mat. Mcfaul avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Mcfaul should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Kalama instigates a clinch.

Mcfaul is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kalama drops back looking for a leg! Mcfaul is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mcfaul manages to kick Kalama off! Kalama jumps back into Mcfaul's guard.

Mcfaul wants to stand but Kalama is controlling the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Mcfaul jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Kalama's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Mcfaul creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Mcfaul breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mcfaul stalks Kalama and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Kalama's face. Kalama staggers backwards, shaken.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mcfaul feints a jab promting Kalama to slip. Mcfaul then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Kalama slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Kalama is rocked!
Mcfaul misses with a head kick.
Oh Kalama is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Mcfaul has his foot on Kalama's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kalama works his way back into a safe position though.

Mcfaul wants to stand and escape but Kalama is having none of it.
Mcfaul has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kalama would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Frank Kalama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dustin Mcfaul.

Kalama shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mcfaul but Mcfaul pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Dustin Mcfaul comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mcfaul has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
