Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gilbert Melendez (ranked 4608 p4p, 4686 weight class) and Zabit Magomedsharipov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Melendez might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Do Ya Thang. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gilbert Melendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Zabit Magomedsharipov!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Melendez with that takedown attempt.
Melendez tries to sprawl but Magomedsharipov drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Magomedsharipov keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Melendez gets back to full guard.
Magomedsharipov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Melendez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Melendez is on top in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Melendez won't allow Magomedsharipov to sweep him here.
Melendez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Magomedsharipov is proving hard to escape from.
Melendez stands up from Magomedsharipov's guard - Melendez perhaps looking for a knockout.

Melendez shoots in looking for a takedown. Magomedsharipov tries to sprawl out of it but Melendez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Magomedsharipov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Melendez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Magomedsharipov counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Magomedsharipov.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gilbert Melendez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Magomedsharipov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Magomedsharipov is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Melendez has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Magomedsharipov is looking to defend but Melendez has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Magomedsharipov! Melendez pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Magomedsharipov taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Gilbert Melendez!
A less than humble Gilbert Melendez misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
