PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Riyu Mendes (ranked 1217 p4p, 1249 weight class) and Ousmane Cisse (ranked 163 p4p, 168 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Riyu Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ousmane Cisse!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Illya Tyunina and Vladimir Khabensky.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice straight punches there by Cisse. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Cisse.
Cisse missing with a left hand there. Mendes was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Mendes displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cisse throws out the jab.
Mendes has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Cisse works over Mendes's head and body with a nice combination.
Cisse jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Cisse throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Mendes looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Mendes misses with an uppercut. Cisse saw that one coming.

Mendes gets a clinch.
Mendes lands a right hand that snaps the head of Cisse backwards.
Mendes tries to pull guard but Cisse won't allow it.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Mendes creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mendes misses with some punches.

Mendes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Cisse gets tackled into the cage by Mendes. Mendes maintains the clinch.

Cisse manages to break the clinch.
Mendes drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Cisse misses the jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cisse steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mendes.
Mendes misses the shot to the body.
Mendes chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Cisse lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Cisse plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Mendes to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Mendes just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ousmane Cisse!
In his post fight interview, Ousmane Cisse started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
