PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between 3 Piece Soda (ranked 2018 p4p, 4215 weight class) and Hukkelberry Flint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Soda comes to the cage accompanied by 3 Nights. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, 3 Piece Soda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hukkelberry Flint!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Saam Ante and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soda throws a leg kick that is checked

and Flint counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Flint looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Flint seems to be looking for submissions.

Soda looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Flint is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Soda is just riding it out for now. Flint eventually gives up the hold.
Soda is trying to maintain the position but Flint is very close to passing his half guard.

Flint wants to control but Soda is keeping him busy.

Soda has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Flint in particular looking to stall.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Flint seems to be looking for submissions.
Soda has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Flint is working away from the top position though.
Soda tries to get to full guard but Flint has control of the leg.
Soda wants to control but Flint is keeping busy.

Flint seems to be working for a kimura but Soda defends the submission attempt.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A nice leg kick lands there from Soda.
Soda throws a hook but Flint blocks it.
Soda scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Flint misses with a takedown
and Soda counters with a left to the body.
Soda throws a lazy right hand but Flint sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Flint counters with a nice double leg into side control. Soda won't be happy with that.
Soda is looking for a sweep.

Flint tries for a kimura but Soda is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Soda's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Soda is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Flint off and has taken his back!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Flint is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Soda scores with punches to the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Soda punishes Flint with strikes from the back mount.
Soda is hanging on to Flint's back as he tries to escape.
Flint felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Soda gets his hands free as Flint looks to control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Hukkelberry Flint will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Soda misses with a body shot.
Soda scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Soda gets tackled into the cage by Flint. Flint maintains the clinch.
Soda misses with the head strike.
Flint is looking to take this one to the mat.
Flint has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Soda avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Flint has Soda pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Soda manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
3 Piece Soda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hukkelberry Flint.
Flint changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Soda fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Soda comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Flint moves out of range of the body kick.
Soda feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Flints jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Soda misses with a body shot.
Flint uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Soda.
Flint fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Soda swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Soda connects with a looping right hand.
Soda lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Soda throws a hook to the side of Flint's head but Flint sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Flint drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Soda shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Soda gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Soda working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Flint doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Flint manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Flint is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Soda sees it coming and defends easily.
Soda is controlling Flint's trapped leg to prevent Flint from advancing to side control.
Soda continues to stall.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Flint is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Soda wants to control but Flint is keeping busy.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Flint tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

3 Piece Soda dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Flint keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Flint on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Soda. Soda obviously looking to wear him down.
Soda uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Flint.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Soda enables Flint to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Soda manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Flint seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Let's hope that Flint has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Soda escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Flint gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Flint is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Hukkelberry Flint has got the better of the ground game so far.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Flint.
Flint trying to control but Soda is working from the bottom.
Flint stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Soda swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Soda looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Soda moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Soda keeps Flint at a distance using the push kick.
Soda connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Flint fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Soda sprawls well initially but Flint persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Flint is looking to stall here but Soda recovers full guard.
Flint controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Flint stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Soda swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hukkelberry Flint comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Flint has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Hukkelberry Flint thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
