PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eberhard Kovac (ranked 4679 p4p, 4966 weight class) and Phlerkin McJerkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovac shoots in looking for a takedown but McJerkins manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kovac's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Kovac looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kovac takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

McJerkins has managed to clinch.
Kovac can't get the takedown.

McJerkins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kovac swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kovac had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McJerkins defends it easily.
McJerkins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kovac swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McJerkins is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kovac shoots in but no luck this time.

McJerkins drops Kovac with a beautiful combination! Kovac stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - McJerkins is looking for the KO!
Kovac tries to close the distance and clinch but McJerkins swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
McJerkins tries for a takedown but Kovac sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kovac seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

McJerkins misses with a two punch combination.

McJerkins rushes Kovac and presses him up against the cage.

Kovac pulls guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kovac manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Kovac jumps guard but McJerkins stands there with Kovac around his waist. Kovac gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kovac is looking to take this one to the mat.

Kovac tries to pull guard but McJerkins forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
McJerkins will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Kovac up against the cage.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

McJerkins shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kovac pinned against the cage. Kovac gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kovac feinted with a counter takedown.
McJerkins wants to clinch up but Kovac keeps it at a distance.

McJerkins closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
McJerkins tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kovac smiles and moves away.
McJerkins stuffs the takedown.
McJerkins throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kovac's waist but Kovac gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McJerkins off to one side.
Eberhard Kovac has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phlerkin McJerkins.

Horrible takedown attempt by McJerkins or perhaps it was just good defense by Kovac, which made it look bad.

Kovac tries to clinch up but McJerkins circles away and keeps his distance.

McJerkins is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Kovac can't fight it off and eventually McJerkins manages to take the fight to the floor. Kovac looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Phlerkin McJerkins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kovac tries to pull guard but McJerkins holds him up against the cage and eventually Kovac drops back down to his feet.

Kovac gets control of McJerkins's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kovac will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Kovac is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McJerkins is aware though and is defending well.

McJerkins wants to get up but he can't break Kovac's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
McJerkins slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Kovac goes for a double leg but McJerkins avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McJerkins continues to drive forward.

Kovac postures up in McJerkins's guard and throws a big left but McJerkins blocks it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kovac moves in looking to clinch but McJerkins pushes him off.
