PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Barry Jones (ranked 3440 p4p, 2740 weight class) and Jerome Winn (ranked 431 p4p, 345 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Raining Blood - Slayer. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barry Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 1, fighting out of London, Jerome Winn!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good standup being displayed there by Jones as he connects with a hook.

It looks like Jerome Winn has been cut.
Winn moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Winn is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jones's half guard.

Jones makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
The fighters circling - Jones throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Winn stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Winn tries to clinch up.
Jones takes a swing at Winn's ribcage but misses.

and Winn connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Winn moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Jones misses with a body shot.
Winn steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jones.

Winn is looking to clinch.
A left lands for Winn.
Jones misses with a right hand
and Winn counters with a one-two to the body.
Jones fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Jones ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Winn moves away.
Jones looks to throw the jab but Winn is out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Winn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Winn lands with a nice body punch.
Winn throws a right and a left that both miss.
Winn tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Winn somewhat.
Winn lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Barry Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones lands with an overhand left.
Winn drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Barry Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd cheers as Jones lands an impressive looking overhand right. Winn doesn't seem phased though.
Winn moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Winn uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jones.

Jones looks to land a left hand but Winn moved out of range nicely.

Winn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jones manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Winn throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jones works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Winn is in close to Jones's body, working some short punches and elbows.
We've been hearing good reports from Jones's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Winn is fighting to break Jones's control of his arms but Jones is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Winn wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

Winn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Winn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Winn throwing strikes from guard but Jones blocks nicely.
Winn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Winn throws an elbow that misses. Jones uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Winn's guard. Nice move by Jones!


Winn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jones defends it easily.
Winn is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones postures up.
Winn looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Winn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Jones just misses with a punch to the body.
Jones connects with a body shot that sends Winn's belly button to the back.
Jones lands a slapping body shot.
Winn swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Winn is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Winn throws a lazy right hand but Jones sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Barry Jones will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Jerome Winn's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Jones shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Jones throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Winn sees it coming and avoids it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Winn! But no joy.
Winn needs to keep his hands up - Jones had a free shot at his head there.

Winn closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Winn tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Jones's elbow.
Jones blocks an uppercut.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Jones.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jones misses with an uppercut. Winn saw that one coming.
Jones throws an off balance right hand
and Winn counters with a right hand to the body.
Winn lands a nice looking body shot.
Jones swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Winn takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Jones sends Winn crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Jones is motioning to the referee to let Winn up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Winn is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Winn closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jones did well to prevent Winn getting side control.

Jones drops Winn with a naaaaasty hook - Winn is in real trouble here! Jones dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Barry Jones!
An out of breath Barry Jones thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
