PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joe Boy (ranked 4674 p4p, 4732 weight class) and Ismail Gage (ranked 0 p4p, 553 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ismail Gage!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boy has managed to clinch.
Boy is looking to take this one to the mat.
A left hand lands to the body for Gage.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Boy breaks from the clinch.
Gage doesn't manage to clinch there - Boy circles away.
Boy misses with a takedown attempt
and Gage counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Boy moves into range and clinches up with Gage.
Boy avoiding damage as Gage throws knees to the body.

Boy has picked Gage up - he's going for a ride! Boy dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Gage kicks off Boy and gets to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gage dives in and grabs Boy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boy pushes down on Gage's head and hops out.

Boy shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gage napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Gage sneaks out the side door and pushes Boy away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Gage tries to clinch up.

Gage displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Boy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Boy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boy slips a jab and a cross from Gage.
Boy tries to clinch there but Gage circles away.
Gage let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gage.
Boy half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Boy is defended easily by Gage.
Gage takes a jab right on the kisser.
Gage avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gage or perhaps it was just good defense by Boy, which made it look bad.

Boy gets a double leg takedown into Gage's guard.
Boy missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Boy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Gage avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Boy wants to pass the guard but Gage is keeping the position.
Boy connects with a couple of short punches.
Gage is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Boy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gage manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Boy has Gage in his guard.

Gage stops Boy from standing up.

Boy working for a triangle but Gage defends it easily.

Gage decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Boy throws a series of punches but Gage moves out of range.
Boy tries to clinch there but Gage circles away.

and Gage counters with a three punch combo that has Boy backing up. Boy nods at Gage to acknowledge the strikes.
Boy stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Boy wants it to stay on the feet.
Boy drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Gage shoots for a takedown but Boy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Boy stalks Gage and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Gage's face. Gage staggers backwards, shaken.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Boy fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gage, pushing him back against the cage.

Boy gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Gage wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Boy manages to pass to side control.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ismail Gage will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Gage wants to clinch.
Gage tries to close the distance and clinch up but Boy swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Boy changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gage tries to keep at a distance but Boy has taken the fight into the clinch.

Boy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gage is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Gage manages to break the clinch.

Boy clinches up with Gage and pushes him back against the cage.
Boy has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Gage after a bit of a struggle.

Boy blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Gage breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Left hook, right uppercut from Gage.
Gage scores with a three punch combo!
Nice sprawl there from Boy as Gage shoots in.
Gage closes the distance and lands a one-two.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Boy looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Joe Boy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Gage rushes Boy and presses him up against the cage.
Gage is pushing Boy up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Boy turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Boy manages to end up in side control.
Boy lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Boy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gage, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gage takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Gage is trying to control Boy's posture but Boy avoids it.

Boy looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Gage tries to escape but Boy is in control.
Boy in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Boy trying to control the position but Gage is working away.

Boy thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Boy lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Boy takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Boy landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Boy winds up and cracks Gage with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Boy is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gage sees it coming and defends easily.
Boy slows the pace down in half guard.

Boy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gage's head.

Boy seems to be looking for submissions.
Boy trying to control from Gage's half guard. Gage has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boy cracks Gage with a solid left hand.

Joe Boy showed his dominance in that final round.
