PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pat Poutine (ranked 4390 p4p, 3727 weight class) and Jacob Pokorney (ranked 0 p4p, 470 weight class). Pokorney has chosen Never Gonna Give You Up as his entrance music. The key to victory for Pat Poutine has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pat Poutine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jacob Pokorney!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pokorney fails to land with a series of punches.
Pokorney misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Pokorney closes the distance and clinches.
Pokorney holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Pokorney is trying to break the clinch but Poutine is controlling him.
Pokorney is looking to take this one to the mat.
A bit of stalling here from Pokorney.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pokorney prevents the takedown attempt.
Pokorney is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Poutine is defending well for now.

A looping hook to the body misses from Poutine. Pokorney does a little dance to reset his feet.

Our sources have told us that Poutine has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.

Pokorney keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Poutine closes the distance and pushes Pokorney back into the cage.

Poutine breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pokorney changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Poutine tries to avoid it but Pokorney manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Poutine to the ground. Poutine escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pokorney is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Poutine moves forwards but Pokorney connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Pokorney wants to get back to striking at distance but Poutine won't allow it.

Poutine drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pokorney pulls his leg out and moves away.
Pokorney misses with a two punch combination.
Poutine shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Pokorney fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pokorney throws a series of punches but Poutine moves out of range.
Poutine tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Pokorney manages to circle out of the way.

Pokorney rushes Poutine and presses him up against the cage.
Pokorney fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Pokorney is trying to pull guard but Poutine turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Pokorney is pressed up against the cage. Poutine has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pokorney down to the mat. Pokorney avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Poutine misses with a body punch.
Poutine is pushing Pokorney up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Pokorney is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Poutine is keeping busy.
Pokorney wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Poutine has him pressed against the cage.
Poutine blocks a body shot from Pokorney.
Pokorney is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Poutine escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pokorney bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pokorney tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

A frustrated look appears on Pokorney's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Pokorney wants to get back to striking at distance but Poutine won't allow it.

Pokorney wants to clinch up but Poutine keeps it at a distance.
Poutine throws a quick counter head kick but Pokorney was just out of range.

Poutine tries to counter with a takedown but Pokorney is quick to defend against it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Poutine enables Pokorney to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Poutine manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Poutine has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Pokorney off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Poutine shoots in and drives through. Pokorney sprawls well.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Poutine - that will leave a mark!
Pokorney looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Poutine is fending him off so far but Pokorney persists. Nope, Poutine circles away and we're back to standing.
Pat Poutine has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jacob Pokorney.

Poutine seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Pokorney is breathing heavily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pokorney shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Poutine defends it nicely.
Poutine dives in for a single leg takedown but Pokorney sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Pokorney manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Pokorney is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Poutine jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pokorney walks away with a smile on his face. Poutine gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Poutine stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Poutine wants it to stay on the feet.

Pokorney tries to clinch up but Poutine circles away and keeps his distance.
Poutine shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pokorney but Pokorney pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Pokorney turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Pokorney manages to end up in side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Pat Poutine will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Pokorney holds on and takes a little breather.

Poutine tries to free his leg and advance position but Pokorney is retaining full guard.
Pokorney is trying to keep Poutine in close.
Poutine pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pokorney is keeping the position for now.
Poutine wants to stand and escape but instead Pokorney has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pokorney's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Pokorney working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Poutine knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pokorney on the ground.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Poutine has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Pokorney is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Poutine.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pokorney wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Poutine, who protects the arm well.
Pokorney has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Pokorney tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Pokorney remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Pokorney is looking to take a break and control but Poutine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Pokorney tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Poutine tries to bench press Pokorney off him but Pokorney keeps the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Pokorney stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Pokorney chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Poutine can pounce on him.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jacob Pokorney comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pokorney has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
