PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauro Mendes (ranked 4678 p4p, 4715 weight class) and Luca Forestar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mauro Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Luca Forestar!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes misses with a combination

and Forestar moves into the clinch.
Forestar swings wildly with an uppercut but Mendes uses good head movement to avoid it.

Forestar manages to break the clinch.
Mendes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Forestar sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Mendes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Forestar swivels and escapes.

Forestar takes the fight into the clinch.
Mendes prevents a body shot from Forestar.

Forestar lands a takedown into guard.
Forestar seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Forestar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Forestar postures up in Mendes's guard and throws a big left but Mendes blocks it.
Forestar is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Forestar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mendes is keeping the position for now.
Forestar throwing strikes from guard but Mendes blocks nicely.

Forestar gets to his feet. Mendes looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Mendes pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Forestar back to the cage. Mendes follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Forestar misses with a leg kick
and Mendes counters with a nice uppercut.
A clash of legs there as Forestar blocks the low kick.
Mauro Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendes moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

It looks like Mauro Mendes has been cut.

Mendes darts in and clinches Forestar up against the cage.
Forestar goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mendes prevents it.
Forestar letting Mendes take a breather here.
Forestar tries a knee to the head but Mendes blocks it.
Mendes is working for takedown but Forestar is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauro Mendes. That's going to take a lot out of him.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mendes lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Mendes is breathing heavily.

Forestar is trying to trip Mendes. He has hold of a leg but Mendes is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Forestar persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Forestar is standing up over Mendes. Mendes looks to escape but Forestar dives into side control.

Mendes tries to bench press Forestar off him but Forestar keeps the position.

A control attempt from Mendes but he's now mounted!
This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Forestar controlling the position easily from mount.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Luca Forestar dominated that round.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Forestar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mendes is trying to get back to half guard.
Forestar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Forestar trying to control the position but Mendes is working away.
Forestar passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Mendes!
Forestar can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mendes is looking to escape.
Forestar might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mendes haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Mendes tries to hold on but Forestar pushes him away.
Forestar looking to control and managing it successfully.
Forestar wants to control but instead Mendes manages to regain half guard.

Mendes pushes Forestar off and gets back to his feet.
Mendes looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Mendes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Forestar's waist but Forestar gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mendes off to one side.

Forestar looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Mendes!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Forestar has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Mendes!
Mendes is trying to reverse the position but instead Forestar has taken his back - oops!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
What can Mendes do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Forestar punches Mendes on the ear.

Forestar keeps control of the position as Mendes tries to break free.
I would not like to be Mendes right now.
Mendes wants to escape the position.

Forestar is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Mendes has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Forestar is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Forestar gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Forestar gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Forestar apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Mendes or perhaps it was just good defense by Forestar, which made it look bad.

Forestar feints and as Mendes raises his hands in defense, Forestar changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Forestar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mendes, pushing him back against the cage.
Forestar has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mendes is not content to let Forestar control the position.

Forestar is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Mendes will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Mendes tries to improve position but can't.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Forestar scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Mendes to see if he's OK.
Mendes looks to move to half guard but instead Forestar has passed into mount! Damn!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mendes wants to hold on but Forestar pushes him away.
Forestar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Forestar is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mendes to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mendes shrugs it off.

Forestar tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
BOOM! Forestar connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Oh Mendes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Forestar stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Forestar is looking for a takedown. Wow, that's a brutal slam - Mendes is in big trouble! Forestar is landing strikes from the mount and this one is all over! The ref jumps in to save a confused looking Mendes. Poor guy.
