PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Old Vet (ranked 4598 p4p, 4645 weight class) and Ching Chong (ranked 410 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Old Vet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ching Chong!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vet circles away from the clinch attempt
and Vet counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Chong is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Chong shoots for a double leg takedown but Vet sprawls well. He's pushed Chong's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Chong takes the fight into the clinch.
Chong trying to land knees to the body.
Vet misses with a hook to the ribs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chong breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chong tries to clinch
and Vet finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Chong tries to score a power double leg takedown but Vet sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chong somewhat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chong is looking to clinch.
Vet circles away from the clinch attempt.
Chong closes the distance looking to clinch
and Vet counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Chong throws a head kick that half lands.
Vet slaps away a takedown attempt from Chong, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Old Vet has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ching Chong.
Chong tries for a takedown but Vet circles away easily
and Vet counters with a left to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big right from Chong misses.
A quick step to the side and Vet tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Chong tries for a takedown but Vet sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
An attempted straight right counter from Vet misses the target.
Chong throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Vet's waist but Vet gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Chong off to one side.
Vet feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Chong is looking to clinch.
Vet throws a quick counter head kick but Chong was just out of range.
Chong has his takedown stuffed
and Vet counters with an inside leg kick.
Chong looks winded!
Chong throws a sloppy head kick and Vet moves out of range easily.
Chong misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Vet counters with a nice low kick that buckles Chong's knee momentarily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chong is looking to clinch.
Chong tries to clinch
enabling Vet to counter with a crisp jab.
Chong stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Vet.
Vet keeps the fight on the outside.
The fighters circling - Vet throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Chong throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Vet throws a counter high kick but Chong was just alert enough to avoid it.
Vet is looking to land body kicks.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Chong.
Vet thinks about countering with a head kick.
Chong wants to clinch
letting Vet counter with a right hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chong fails with the takedown
and Vet counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Chong gets caught flat footed, as Vet shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Vet has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Vet working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Vet postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Vet drops back looking for a leg! Chong is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chong manages to kick Vet off! Vet jumps back into Chong's guard.
Vet not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Old Vet dominated that round.
That's time! Vet's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Vet lands a really nice looking cross but Chong seems unphased.
Chong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vet seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Chong shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vet but Vet pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vet attempts a counter takedown but Chong avoids it well and moves away.
Chong with a lazy takedown attempt
and Vet counters with a leg kick.
Chong misses with a double jab
and Vet counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Chong wants to clinch up but Vet keeps it at a distance.
And Vet counters with a quick kick to the body but Chong blocks it.
Chong throws a combination that misses
and Chong takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Chong is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chong tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Vet paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Vet was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Chong gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Vet seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Vet looking to pass the guard.
Chong trying to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vet prevents Chong from getting back to his feet.
Vet cracks Chong with a solid left hand.
Vet slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Chong wants to sweep here but Vet controlling him for the moment.
Vet is pushing down on Chong's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chong is fighting to maintain full guard but Vet has managed to sneak the leg through.
Chong pushes Vet off looking to stand but Vet dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vet perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vet is working for a submission of some sort.

Vet is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Chong defends it well.
Vet landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Vet escapes and gets back to his feet.
Chong doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Vet holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Old Vet has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ching Chong.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chong jumps guard but Vet stands there with Chong around his waist. Chong gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Vet lands a shoulder strike.
Vet lands a nice uppercut.

Vet breaks from the clinch.
Chong shoots in but Vet avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Vet feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Chong blocks a head kick by Vet.
Chong throws a counter combo.
Chong has his takedown stuffed
and Vet counters with a stiff right hand.

Chong is rocked!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Old Vet dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Vet scores with a nice head shot.
Chong is still on wobbly legs! Can Vet finish him?
Ching Chong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vet is stalking Chong. Chong circles to his left. Keeps circling left. Bam! Straight right from Vet, and it's lights out! Chong really payed the price for that rookie mistake.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:13 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Old Vet!
